BTCC - Knockhill - 5th Sept (ITT: Massive pics & video links)

Well I won a free ticket to the BTCC up at Knockhill and here's some of the shots I grabbed from the phone (HTC Desire).

Two classic F1 cars were on the track during the lunch break. Boy they sounded nice. Unfortunately they killed the sound on the camera so no video of them on track. I never realised just how big the rear tyres are.

06 - The recovery vehicle for the recovery vehicle. The first one pulled the Touring car into a safe place and then dug itself down to the axle into the grass. After the race what seemed like twenty marshals went over to "help out".

To put the Touring car racing in perspective this is the summery from the BTCC website:

...four drivers were punished for on-track incidents at Knockhill. These included: Race 1: Mat Jackson – fined £250 & 3 penalty points (for an incident with James Nash); Race 2: Tom Chilton & Jason Plato – each officially reprimanded & 3 penalty points (both for incidents with Steven Kane); Race 3: Jeff Smith – officially reprimanded, fined £250 & 3 penalty points (for an incident with David Pinkney).

There were numerous safety cars out throughout the day, the first video was the first restart of race 3 if I remember correctly.

The Porsches has great sound effects as they went past

Sponsoring gone too far when they're forced to have banners on the cars I missed this happening but it was on the second corner I think. I was at the top of the chicane.

Not sure if you can see this very well but there was some light contact in the Ginetta 's Yup; no front bumper, bonnet and most of the front wings are missing.

The Dunlop signs dotted around the track were really taking a beating. This one went skywards

BTCC - Another sign bites the dust

This was the first major race event I've been to and it was a great day. Plus I only got slightly sunburnt

    Nice footage and pics

    It was some cracking racing.

Always good the BTCC, and Knockhill this year was a true classic. Lots of passing and an awfull lot of 'rubbing'
    BTCC at it's best

Watched it on TV and it did look like a good meeting. Been to Brands Hatch and Oulton Park so far this year and going to Brands again at the end of the year.

Love the BTCC, much better than Go-Karts. Glad you enjoyed it, you planning on going again? Usually £25 for the Sunday so it is a bit of a bargain.

It was a cracking weekend, though the stiff breeze did mean it was jacket weather, despite the sun.

I can't recommend Knockhill enough for spectators. Full access to the paddock (like most BTCC meets), but here you're mingling with the teams, everyone everywhere. You can see 90% of the track from 90% of the circuit, and for those who choose the hairpin (where you can see the best overtaking place and most of the S/F straight) you get a big screen so you can see the rest of the action.

    It's a stunning spectator circuit.

    Racing wasn't bad either.

The best spectating point is at the Knockhill karting track though. Some very poor driving makes for hilarious viewing. A must-stop place when you're walking through the paddock - we chose to watch it rather than the 2nd Carrera race... we chose the wrong race to miss, but still.

Roll them into one big weekend of fun.

For the Knockhill event each year we drag a bunch of southerners up to Newcastle, go karting at the excellent Warden Law track, bowling afterwards, then head up to Knockhill early the following day. Every year it gets better and better.
