    Driving Licence question

When I got mine 7 years ago it came in 2 parts as I suspecy most peoples did. The photo vard part and the paper part.

I lost the paper part some years ago (I think it was mixed in with a load of other paper work which I shredded and then burnt)

So I've gone to the DVLA and requested a replacement licence (at the cost of £20 !) for both parts but I've heard rumours that the paper part is no longer needed/not valid.

I'm only asking because I've got a job interview and they've asked to see my driving licence and they've asked for both parts and I've only got the photo card part.

The annoying about this is next year it needs re-newing and I've knwon for years about the paper part and was hoping I could avoid doing this until it was time to re-new, it seems not lol.

    Re: Driving Licence question

Could you not just renew your licence a year early instead?

    Re: Driving Licence question

New licenses still comes with the paper part (for points etc) and the card. I had lost the paper part of my provisional license and when I came to sit the theory I had to get a replace card and paper.

So the Paper and card in definitely still needed (at least it was 3 weeks ago)

    Re: Driving Licence question

I think you will find, that in law, the only part of the driving licence that is valid IS the paper part.

Oh well not to worry then, whole new lot on its way although I'll have to renew it next year.

The card is just a way of forcing people to have an ID card.

Edit: I had to renew my old pink and green paper Licence early as regular licence checks for work left it in six pieces after some of the office baffoon's tore it trying to re-fold it. The annoying thing is I'll have to renew it again in 2014 as my LGV & PCV entitlements run out then.
