    Renault Warranty Question :/

    Hi All

Well I went out and got myself a new 2004 16v clio a month or two back. Renault are being really sheepish about what info they will give me on the warranty and whats covered and not. The main question is, does anyone know if the warranty would be affected if I put a kit on it, stripped the exhaust off and replaced with a 182 cup exhaust, bigger wheels, better brakes and an induction kit? I know the induction will affect it possibly if not completely void it so I will have to swap it before it goes for its service etc but any info you can share would be great.

    Cheers.

    Grey

Well they won't cover anything you have fitted, but if you get things like brakes etc fitted by a Renault dealer your warrenty should be sound.

Exhausts usually aren't covered anyway because they're a wear-n-tear item (like brake pads, wipers, etc..).

wheels i would think no, exhaust probably not, brakes maybe, induction probably.

why not just trade it for a 182??

cos a 182 with three points and ncd would cripple me atm this is my first owned car, rest have been parents (yes I know 22 and getting your first car) i am trading it for a 182 or equiv 3 or 4 years down the line. I know they wont cover the stuff i put on but i have heard people say their warranties were voided for putting kits on etc and when the induction goes on the engine warranty is void as it isnt a standard part just wondering if they would void the warranty all together on the car if I start tinkering to say the least

The 182's are nice car's I test drove one then their faces dropped when i went for the smaller clio lol its the dynamique 2004 sport according to the log book. Just wondering if anyone had one and has modded it and still has their warranty in tact.

You may find the extra on the insurance for the mods will put it up to more than the insurance on the 182 would be....

But when I bought my car new (Fiat) I was told that any mods I wanted to make to body/engine would have to be done with original manufacturer parts and fitted by an offical dealer to keep my warranty. The exception was wheels....

General rule is mods will invalidate warranty completely NOT just the item that you changed.

My octavia VRS still got 11months left on its 3yr warranty, when i bought it as 2nd owner, was specifically instructed that any mods at all invalidates the warranty!.

Personally if you buy a new car i don't understand the need for mods. Sure once it gets older etc then do them but NOT on a new car imo

i have called my insurance company and asked about the kit induction and ice and they said they would only ask for an extra £50 to cover it all which aint bad. I could get the renault kit (sports kit) but they want £1000 which is beyond a joke. Renault did mention if I get things such as brakes and exhausts then they would fit them under warranty and claim it back from the main head office's but to be honest, the standard clio body work looks ok but it needs styled, and the renault kit for the £1000 looks naff to say the least Guess I will just have to wait and then play with it at a later date.

On the 182 front. If i was to get insured on a 182 1.6 16v i was quoted £1500 on this 1.2 16v (1.2 kills me when i am used to 1.6's but for the insurance i will put up with it)i was quoted £605 fully comp with the three points so it was considerably cheaper in the long run. In the three years the points are off and i will have 3yr ncd and will be 25 so the insurance won't be so bad, but this is of course is renault don't drastically change the clio as they have done for the languna and megane.

    Thanks for the info.

Wear and tear stuff you'd probably get away with. Other stuff I doubt it. Induction kit is easy enough to uninstall and replace the stock item when it's due for a service / check over etc.

There's various Renault forums - http://renaultsportsclub.co.uk/forum_3403/default.asp might be a good one to look at since there's a load of people with styling mods etc on newer cars. See what they get away with.

cheers lowe i know xtr knows a lad who works in the renault garage by where I work, wonder if I could contact him to see what he says. So I am also guessing then that doing the pedals will be a no no on the warranty then? hope not, just sourced some nice carbon fiber pedals for the clio. Tis a shame about the warranty as there are some nice kits out there for the phase 3 clio's

um no, this clio shape is new for 2004 basically its last years model but they changed the front grill / bumper, shortend the back end by a few inches. If they change it to a ugly chunk of metal such as the new megane they won't be getting me back for another clio

Pedals you'd get away with I'd imagine. You drill them in, though take the rubber original bits off first. That way if need be when replacing the originals it hides the drill holes

yeah i knew that much I am not a stranger to tinkering and modding cars but its just the warranty stuff I wasn't to sure on. Although on the newer clios the acceleration pedel there are these two clips that seem to hold the rubber in place which can't be removed and I obviously don't want to snap them off or remove them incase the rubber has to go back on. So I am just trying to work out a way of getting round these clips are they are in the way of where I would need to drill for those pedals.
