    Re: Alfa 159

On the other hand though, a friend of mine had a 159 with the 1.9 diesel and it never missed a beat.

His was grey and looked fabulous!

Some fair points I'm also smitten by the looks, its very different and quite rare in my travels to actually see one. Unless they are all in garages being fixed
Maidenhead would be "Alfa Aid", superb place. Used to use them all the time until I changed jobs, now I use AHM in Fleet who are also excellent. Using knowledgeable and enthusiastic Alfa garages is probably why I am on my 4th Alfa and my wife is on her second and so far neither of us have had a breakdown.

I think the V6 would worry me a bit in the 159 as it is the Holden block from GM with an Alfa head grafted on it to give it an Italian feel. Not suer how many they sold, and wonder what the spares situation will be like in coming years.

The last place the old Busso V6 went was the Alfa GT (my wife's current car) if you want the old Alfa V6 sound.

I think the fact it is called a "Busso V6 "or sometimes "Arese V6" says a lot about Alfas. The engine was designed by Giuseppe Busso and made at the Arese factory. Do you know who made your engine?

200bhp should be ok as long as the suspension is all lined up ok.

My wife's GT is a bit squirmy with 240bhp, but I gather that is largely down to the 18" alloys and the 17" is supposed to be a lot more refined, and the Q2 is supposed to largely fix the big allows problem.

My 166 is only a 2.5l with 190bhp and is a complete pussycat.

I've given them a ring and they gave a very competitive quote for a service half that of black and white in fact! Interestingly they can also offer remap and dpf removal if I feel the need. Left a voicemail with AHM in fleet so will be interesting to see what price they get back to me with.

If the price is right when I get a call back from the dealer the above shall be mine Who can say no to that pretty face?

Wait, hold up - those are the WRONG wheels my friend. You need the pepper-pot or telephone dial style wheels.

Black & White are excellent if you're not that far away. They used to take care of my 147 back in the day, and these days they help me out with the MOT on the Caterham. Damn fine people all round, and old school mechanics who actually know how to mend things rather than just read a computer diagnostics screen

    Re: Alfa 159

With the lack of diesel 159's about at the moment I couldn't really be to picky about the alloys. I'm sure Black and White are very good, but when they are charging double the price of another specialist I question quite why there is the extra premium.

I have been liking the Fiat Bravo diesel 1.6 Multi-Jet engine or which ever you like which has 50+MPG and 105+BHP and tax band of C-E.

    Fantastic! Looks lovely.

If Alfa Aid are closer to you then I would use them for servicing, but AHM have a rolling road and so would be my first choice for any tuning.

Alfa Aid are a reasonably sized garage with quite a few Alfa enthusiast mechanics, whereas AHM is an Alfa racing outfit servicing Italian cars to make a living. The two owners know each other very well and both really know their stuff. I suspect the Alfa Aid dpf removal will be the AHM developed one

Being a smaller outfit it is less likely that someone at AHM is near the phone when you ring, but they should get back to you.

Did you see the drool inducing ahm racing site?

I'm not at all keen on the wheels, I don't think they suit the car at all but as long as you like them

    Re: Alfa 159

If I was being picky I'd have liked bigger alloys, I think the alfa 17's or some OCZ Supperleggeros in 18's would suit the car a bit better. I'd rather spend money on a remap + insurance increase then some alloys to be honest.

British roads and large alloys don't mix in my opinion - the smaller the hubs the better.

Beautiful car, and you will love it. Got a bargain on the 2.2 Petrol Alfa Brera two months back and the only thing for me is she is thirsty, although I knew she would be when I got her, and every time I get out and see the sexy thing I cant think anything but I did the right thing.

And as you say, you don't see many around, and that to me that makes it feel a bit more special

    Re: Alfa 159

Picked up the car today and had an excellent blast down some country roads, m40 and a34 Cannot get enough of the pickup and shove the turbo provides, blows my former v6 mondeo out of the water! I'll try and get some pictures sorted during the day tomorrow.

Impressed with Stratstone to, considering they are really only about executive/ sports cars
