Anyone had a insurance renewal through recently?

Ok something REALLY odd is going on - just got my renewal through for the 120d and after paying £378 last year I get a renewal of £577.

After picking myself up off the floor I set about seeing what the alternatives were, and it seems something has really smacked the premiums on the 120d - Im getting prices all NORTH of the renewal, with some as high as £985 - EVERY single quote is higher than my renewal.

Im 31, 8 years no claims, 11k mileage a year, private drive and SDPC and Class 1 use - the other half is on it too which is bring it down to the prices shown above. Car is an 09 120d 3dr - approx value 14k.

We recently insured the OH's Mini, after her renewal came in at £577 (coincidence?!?!) - she paid £345 in the end through direct line...

The more research I do into this the more I think theres a price fixing thing going on - I misread the swiftcover site (very clever mr web developer) and the quote they gave just so happens to be £1 more than my renewal.

I paid £378 one year ago, £577 is my renewal and it also just so happens it is the cheapest compared to anything I can find on any price comparison site - additionally I have done aviva, Direct Line, Priviledge....the only thing left now is brokers - Ive tried adrian flux and will try one near my office in the morning, but I have to say, given there have been NO changes in circumstance for me AT ALL with the exception of a 5 year with the same insurer and additional no claims on both of us we're being stung here for a massive 50%+ increase compared to last year.

Someone, somewhere should be ashamed of themselves.

Primo are the first people I've ever renewed a policy with in my life. Every year previously, it's been a day or two of ring arounds until someone managed to about match what I had before.

Re: Anyone had a insurance renewal through recently?

As I said in a post in GD the other day, the same happened with me a few years ago, 1st year £250, renewal came £600 !!!! In my case I put it down to a spate of car thefts in the area (no way to say if this was correct) as the insurer had no idea why it had gone up so much. The cheapest I found elsewhere was about £450 with Hastings, and last year it's gone down to £375 with Admiral so starting to drop again...

s'happening to all of us, mainly due to increase in uninsured claim payouts. My car ins went from £360 to £520.

    Gotta live with it sadly.

I'm with Swiftcover and I renewed back in October/November with them for the second time - it had only gone up by about £20.

I'm quite a low mileage driver though (and nearly 40 with a 10 years+ no claims.)

Re: Anyone had a insurance renewal through recently?

don't get me wrong I know it has to go up...but the mini was the same price when shopping around as the previous year - but this is VERY first time I can't find less than my renewal.

It's now considerably more than the Z4 which I got rid of as that was getting expensive to run on petrol (ironically the insurance wasn't that bad) - but if in my good postal code, with a diesel, low mileage I am getting these prices then others are going to be really shocked when they get theirs.

I've been through the years of £1K+ insurance, but it just gripes me that 50%+ increase over the previous year can be justified...

Just you wait to you see how many don't bother with insurance as things get tight - better find me a company that doesn't required my £500 excess if hit by an uninsured I guess...

Re: Anyone had a insurance renewal through recently?

Just received the OH's renewal on the KIA Ceed. Up by ~£50. No reason, no change in circumstances.
The Audi looks like it's going to be up as well, but that's not due till March. I did a quick web-around and that looks to be up by £50-100.
    Society's to blame,
    Or possibly Atari.

I'm already jealous of you all!

I paid £2300 first year for insurance on a 1.0 Corsa C - Fully comp.

Now £1600 this year, you lot don't know how easy you have it with your nice audis and beemers!

Also, did you try LV? They've been spot on with me every time!

My other half was moaning that her insurance on a 1.2 Corsa has gone up £150 in spite of the additional year no claims bonus.

Mine actually went down slightly in December by a whole £8.

Re: Anyone had a insurance renewal through recently?

Admiral stiffed me for another 180 quid. I tried it online (moved to N8 from N22), got a quote 80 quid cheaper from admiral over my renewal (Normally they don't quote you if they know you are renewing). When I phoned them up the said I had not include am accident in the online quote (Which I had talked to them about, however it was settled privately rather than though Admiral, the other side paid (bricks fell on my car) (total value of that claim was 600 quid!). As a result when i spoke to them told them of the address change the change the renewal up 100! So it cost me 180 quid more (Admiral were the cheapest for class 1 business use). 730 quid total 10 years Protected NCD, no points on licence..... GITS!
(\__/) All I wanted in the end was world domination and a whole lot of money to spend. - NMA

Re: Anyone had a insurance renewal through recently?

Just prior to my joining the company insurance scheme (in November) I got a quote through from my then current insurers and for the first time in years it had dropped to something reasonable, from about ~£5-600 down to ~£350. Could be that I'd just reached 5 years NCB though.

Re: Anyone had a insurance renewal through recently?

My insurance went up with aviva £17 on last year, they sent through a renewal with a far greater price increase of about £200 iirc. Phoned me out of the blue asking what I was going to do and as soon as I said I wasnt very happy at all they came back after quite a long wait with a far better number.
