Question peugeot 306 white smoke apart from blown head

hi, this is my first post.
i have a peugoet 306 1.6 glx, im having trouble with it stalling when coming to a stop and droping down into gear. i have been looking into the idle air control valve also known as the stepper motor but having trouble locating it.
and another problem which im more worried worried about it white smoke coming out of my tail pipe, the engine isnt missing changed the spark plugs and nothing out of the ordinary with those, new air filter, feul filter, cleaned all the carbon out of the throttle body, no oil in water and no water in oil, no loss of coolant, engine doesnt overheat. the oil filter is in need of a change which will be done in the next 48 hours, if anyone atall could help me with any of this i would be very gratefull.

soz bowt the long thread but again would be very gratefull for any answers to my problem

Re: peugeot 306 white smoke apart from blown head

As far as the second problem is concerned it could be something as simple as water in the back box of the exhaust (depending on just how dense the cloud is) as this has a tendency to build up if the car is only being used on short journeys as the exhaust doesn't have a chance to warm up for long enough to evaporate the water that condenses during the night (I managed to pour the better part of half a litre of water out of mine when I patched up a hole in the pipe section a couple of years ago) and with the weather and temps we've been having you see a lot of cars going around with steam coming out the exhaust.

I'd keep an eye on the dip stick for water/oil emulsion though just to be on the safe side though.

Is it auto ? I have had clouds of white smoke when the seals in my old Mazda box went.
    Society's to blame,
    Or possibly Atari.

Question Re: peugeot 306 white smoke apart from blown head

hi, thanks for that reply i will have a look at that,
its a 1.6 manual gearbox, im from south wales so the temperatures have been nasty if i can rule out the head gasket ill be happy because the white smoke if it were the head is said to smell like antifreeze which it doesnt.

Re: peugeot 306 white smoke apart from blown head

Could well just be steam if the car is otherwise running fine. My 106 sometimes gives off a disconcerting white cloud if I give it a bootfull when it's not quite warm, I'm pretty sure there's nothing wrong with it though. Smoke doesn't tend to be white as I understand it, an overly rich mixture gives black smoke and burning oil gives grey/blue smoke. Take it for a decent blast down the motorway to see, I suppose- if it's still doing it after half an hour of reasonable load on the engine then it might be worth further investigation.

Welcome to the forum by the way, I like the way we seem to be the number one destination for 306 owners with problems now! Did you find us via Google by any chance? I'm not being rude btw, just flippant, glad to have you here!

A IT Forum may not be the best place for advice on this subject, regardless of how knowledgeable some people are.

I would recommend going on the below forums.

I am sure someone will have had the problem previously
