Getting rid of cigarrette smell from car

I got my new car last week and it seems the previous owner might have been a smoker.

Anyone know the best way to get rid of the smell?

an air con cleaner is a good start as it gets into the hidden parts, failing that baking soda on the carpets and seats (will take up to a week)

Isopropyl alcohol spray for the roof liner and plastics or methelated spirits can be used on the roof liner,

If you've got the budget to do it, go for a full valet of the entire car.

Not only will your car come back cleaner than you've ever seen it, but it will also get rid of the smells trapped in the carpet etc.

Also worth having your aircon etc serviced - because if they have smoked in the car it will be in the filters etc - some places use a device which acts a little like a smoke machine - passes the requisite stuff through the aircon and all the filters/vents.

If you notice it mostly when the heater is on then it's probably got a cabin filter holding the smell, mine did... they're a few quid to change and it probably tells you how in the manual. If it has one change it now and then change it again in about a month, helped massively in my car and that stank when the heater was on.

A full air con service/blitz like dave87 suggested is better though.

Re: Getting rid of cigarrette smell from car

Just had a look at changing the cabin filter is stupidly simple!

I`m gonna have a look at the filter and see if that smells.

Thanks for the other advice as well

GOing to have a look around for a decent valet in my area and get a full valet done on it I want me new car to smell like a new car damit!!

Should be able to get a decent valet for £20 or so, I get mine done every so often for that.
