What worries me is the likes of BP & shell buying up this kind of thing & shelving it to keep future demand for petrol there!

Not in the slightest bit daft.

I believe the Volt was supposed to be a 3 cyl engine for best efficiency, but it sounded too rough so they were going to replace it with a 4cyl design.

I think they should have taken that to the next level, a little baby 1.0l V8 flat crank for my range extender please, if it is going to be running flat out then I want it to sound *lovely*

    1. 3 cylinder engines sound better than 4 cylinder engines.
    2. Cross plane crank V8's sound far better than flat plane V8's Flat plane crank V8 engines sound very similar to the toneless drone that a 4 cylinder makes.

These are facts. They cannot be disputed

Let me hear a 3 pot that sounds better than a 4 pot, granted the 4 pot I'm thinking of tends to rev over 8k and has bodies on it but still

Any of the speed triples will do, however a Daytona is something else.
And I'm not even a bike man!

A 4 banger on throttle bodies or lots of very large carbs may sound nice, but a 3 banger with a similar setup will always sound better.

    lol.

but a flat plane V8 sounds like a racing car, because that is what they use. Association of the sound perhaps, rather than the musicality of the engine itself?

They both sound nice though, given the right intake/exhaust system.
