Can I machine polish my RX8 with a finishing pad and polish once a month when I clean my car, or would it thin the paint down over time ?

I would think the paint would wear down over time.

I've seen it mentioned a few times when a red car gets the white blotches it's actually the paint gone bad and a machine polish will polish off the bad paint. So doing it often can only lead to one thing.
You'd probably be better off washing and finishing with a wax.

Best thing is to get it to a really good finish with machine polishing once every year or so and then protect it with good waxes and sealants for as long as you can. Excessive or improper polishing will thin your paint and worst case, strip it right back to the undercoat.

depends on what polish you use.

A machine polisher and a non abbrasive polish will not do much harm... but why use a machine one something that should be done by hand?

Machine polishing, in it's truest motor-trade form, is with agressive polish that WILL wear it down, but does a cracking job on cars covered with swirls and whirls on the laquer from daily life, washing, etc
