    radar detectors

these are one of the thing sone my shopping list - of course i don't condone speeding or anything, but in this day and age it's needed to keep my pennies in my pockets!

do any of you lot have one? which one? is it easy to use? what can you reccomend? are the most basic ones fine for 99% of the time, or is the extra worth it for higher spec models?

Best to get a GPS type detector. They store a map of where speed cameras are, and alert you when you approach one.
Of course, they don't work against handheld or mobile detectors, but a handheld detector fires for less than a second anyway, so you aren't going to have enough warning.

Ye, Like "Road Angel" It uses GPS, which is ace... Also has a Radar add-on for handheld or similar radar guns... Its actually cheaper than the higher Snooper models and in my opinion far more effective... It also points up black spots and anything else that might be important, by giving a different alarm. I have briefly used one before and had one of their reps give us a show, really good in my opinion... (I think they retail for about £299 with the radar add-on)

What happens when the smaller GPS companies go out of buisness. Oh dear, 400 quid paper weight....

Lowe - there is only one GPS system, and it's run by the US government

Not GPS itself, the company that you subcribe to that keeps your database up to date in your detector, fool.

Apparently some of these GPS companies are being backed by the government or something as they "increase safety while driving" or something like that...
