    Barum Tyres

Anyone know anything about these ? Apparently made by Continental, they've been recommended to me for the TT.

    Re: Barum Tyres

When I replaced the tyres on my old Saxo I ended up with Barum Brilliantis 2s after reading a few reviews. They get good reviews and are reasonably priced but it's always worth doing your research. I'd certainly put them well above your unbranded ditchfinders.

You can find some reviews here. I'm guessing on a TT you'd be looking at Bravuris 2s which have an average rating of 84% from 30 reviews.

    Re: Barum Tyres

They're Continental's budget brand, a bit like Sava are to Goodyear. I had Brillantis-es on my mum's old Clio, and they were basically fine, although they squealed an awful lot under hard cornering. Much better than Chinese Ditchfinders, anyway.

TBH though, if you can afford a TT, I dunno why you'd want to scratch around to save £25-50 a corner over proper premium tyres on what's supposed to be a sports car. If you need to though, you could also consider Kumho- they also get mixed reviews but I've got some KH-17s on my little Peugeot and they stick like **** to a blanket. But that could be because it weighs about half as much as a lardy TT

    LOL
TTs are cheap nowdays. I was looking at GY Eagles but soooo pricey. I was just hoping to save £100.

What size does the TT take Phage? and what price were you looking at for the Eagle F1s?

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 (the new ones) - £95.20 inc VAT ea
    http://camskill.co.uk/m54b0s16p78806..._45R17_91Y_TL_

Dunlop SportMaxx TT - £87.70 inc VAT ea
    http://camskill.co.uk/m54b0s16p73203...17_91Y_MFS_TL_

    Falken FK452s - £76.00 inc VAT ea
    http://camskill.co.uk/m54b0s16p6205/...R17_94Y_XL_TL_

Add to those prices £50 to fit and balance all four at a local tyre place and you are sorted. Well under £500.

I've got FK452s on my BMW (e39 530i Sport) and they are good, would happily recommend them. Guy has run them on a few cars and he has much the same opinion. I had the older Asymmetrics on my Honda Civic 2.2 iCDTi which took 225/45/17s and they were excellent - the new ones are meant to be even better. The Dunlops are another option - had them on my 5 series when I got it, they were perfectly fine and wore well, but didn't seem to have as much grip as the Eagle F1s. That said they were a little past their best at the time, and so isn't really a fair comparison.

    Re: Barum Tyres

Have you looked for part worn tyres?

A few garages around ours do part won tyres that are as good as new but cost about a quarter of the price in some cases

    Re: Barum Tyres

I was told that in some countries in europe its illegal for a tyre that has been on a write off to be re-used so garages over here are going over there and buying them in bulk for cheap.

The tyres could have been used for a 1k miles in some cases so you are getting a great tyre for cheap.

Loads of garages all over the country do them nowadays

If that's including a spare tyre then it's not a bad price, if it's not then look elsewhere. http://www.blackcircles.co.uk have plenty of tyres for under £100 fitted, but personally I'd go for the Uniroyal Rainsport 2s for £101.94 each fitted.

iirc Costco have 20% off a set of 4, maybe it's Michelin branded only though.

Saved me about £100-£120 on my Focus, worth a look if you're needing them.

I believe there's maybe a week still to run on the offer.

Quick update. Got a set of the Falken 452s and new some new front brakes for 580.00. Well pleased.
The 452s are grippy, at least as good as the old F1s and much better in the wet. (mind you the old F1s were quite worn)

I just picked up 4 for my Cherokee that still had all the little moulding dimples on it.

Paid the princely sum of £92 for a set of 215/75/15 AT tyres.... rather chuffed, but I think I may have lucked out on that one.

    Re: Barum Tyres

I've got barum bravius 2 on my 306 hdi 195/55/15 on the front only and continental premium contact2 on the rear, they're not bad in the dry, road holding is fairly good when you need it, in the rain it's a whole different story, it can be tricky to drive these, I find it quite hard to pull off in the rain without spinning up, the ABS kicks in all too often when braking in the rain. The wear rate is excellent, it is one of the superior low/mid tyres, but I much prefer my AVON Zv5's on my other car which can also be purchased at a similar price, hope this helps in some way!
