Cat1 Alarm / Immobiliser and CD player

    Hi all,

I've got a Cat 1 alarm and immobiliser on my SEAT Ibiza (S Plate) and I have just installed a Sony CDXMP40 mp3 player into it.

I tune in Radio 1 to the preset button 1, take the key out of the ignition, radio turns off. Put key back in, turn car to position 2, and Radio1 is still prest.

If I arm the car with the alarm, disable the alarm, put key in ignition as above and the preset it lost.

Why is this? I dont want to keep changing all the settings on the car everytime I get in.

    Is their anyway around this?

    Cheers,
    Nick

[Edit]: Additional information (+ more Questions) wanted by another forum:

"I used the Sony car adapter, and basically slotted it straight in.

Their was no room for a connector from the car, it had a blue head, had 8 small holes in it. Not sure what it is for...?

Does the Cat1 immobiliser just cut all power to the car, hence the headunit loosing its settings as it has no power?"

Depends on how they wired it into the car.....

To me it sounds like rather than cutting the feed after the ignition switch, they've cut it before the switch.

    I fitted it myself.

Do you think Halfords would be able to sort it out easily? Because I cba to keep altering my presets!!

You fitted the cat 1 alarm yourself? It's the Alarm that's been fitted incorrectly, not the stereo!

I presuming you just plugged the wiring into the existing loom? Did the old radio have the same problem?

So did the old unit do the same thing?

I suspect the alarm has been incorrectly wired - It SHOULDN'T kill all permanent feeds when armed. Certainly not something Halfords should be sorting out - It Should be done by who ever installed it, as modifying it could void its Cat1 status. (You don't want to be finding that out when you've had to claim on your insurance......)

The only thing that pointed me to the alarm is that my old car had an immobiliser and using the same adapter, which to lost its presets.

The old unit didnt lose its presets, but it was the standard headunit.
