What do you think causes this? And any tips on fixing it? (Windscreen purple spots)

Just got this car off a friend (2003 Citroen C3), and I've not seen anything like this before. He says these purple spots/marks developed over the last year or so. He reckons it could be degradation of the UV layer? Not sure on that. Its a good price, I still want the car, but not sure what to do about this.

Anyway, can't be cleaned from the inside or outside, and the sun hits it, its a bit distracting.

    Any ideas?

What can't it be cleaned with? (bog standard window clearner probably wont cut it if its from something like hard water/additional mineral build up as it will remove very little)

You could apply pressure and see if they are stress marks from the glass (would expect them to change if it's pressure related), otherwise I'd suggest you have him take it to a professional cleaning/valeting place to ask about it to see what it is

The position looks wrong IMO for it to be UV degredation, would expect it to be a lot more evenly distributed, I'd put money on water/washer fluid related bits (especially given the clean lines next to the blades/side of the windscreen in photo 1)

Just call the windscreen replacement company that your insurer uses and tell them you need a new screen. The guy that comes to fit it won't care if you really do or not
