    No.

A scooter won't help you when you come to upgrade to a real bike..

Depends on cost of both, draw a plan up and see how much each will cost you, maybe an investment in a limited 50cc bike that you can de-restrict when you've done your CBT etc would work out best.

I'll go with Junior on this one.....scooter first, find out what is going on out there and how bad most people are when driving near bikes

    then move onto a bike....

I think its a fine idea

granted that would be valid if he was getting a scooter to 'learn how to drive a motorbike' but he's said that he want's to sort the road bit out (which imo is the important bit) and it's quite good on a scooter to do that, cos if you get it wrong - you're in doo-doo to be quite frank cos most drivers treat people on bikes, and especially scooters like crap and the only way you're gonna survive is by being switched on ie, not worrying about stuff like clutches and gears and things....

one thing tho.... DO IT RIGHT!! pleeeeaaaase don't turn into a safeway carpark bashing chav JUST cos you're on a scoot.... (and the advice about gear still stands - even on a scoot).

A scooter will help you learn the road, but the change in riding position to a real bike will be tricky, you are safer on a real bike, and learning gears, etc early will give you a real head start. Plus you avoid the chav-image!

Whatever you choose, go back and read that gear advice again just to be sure, because all PTW-riders will agree on how important it is!

I learnt to change gears on a Honda MT50 in about 20 minutes when I was 13. Really, it's not the hardest part of riding a bike, it soon becomes second nature. Still, I also don't think that going from a scooter to a proper bike will be in any way difficult, so really it's up to you.
