Pleasantly disappointed in a Octavia vRS

Came up against a vRS today (on a runway of course)

Started at 70mph, so left it in 5th, all the way up to 125(true GPS speed) and he couldn't get away although he was trying (could see smoke/coloured exhaust).

I was quite pleased with my little car, considering the torque differences, I imagine the vRS has ooodles of turbo torque.

    lol at boot size!!

Tell ya wot mate, I've got more respect for them than I did coz it did shift, just very pleased that I had the legs on it.

I'm sure there are a few mods for the turbo system, and then it'd be a hell of a different story, that's the beauty of turbo's eh.

oh yeah matey. only another 8 or so months till i can put the 225bhp chip in without invalidating the warranty.

They are very quick cars, but they certainly are a tiny bit heavier than your 182. I've no doubting that your car is quicker. Because if you where at 125, you are a quicker driver than me too....

You find yourself quick shifting in the clio tho?, its still something i've not got used to and why i love the gearing on my octavia.... 3rd goes from 20 to 90 without even thinking...

Best of all tho, managed to get 34.2mpg out of the last tank!!. Combined figures is about 2.4mpg less than that i believe...

Standard they're about the same, but introduce a chip to the vRS and the Clio gets left for dead. However show the Octavia a corner and the Cup will just about edge it. Muchos respect to the Skoda, they're seriously rapid.

Turbo 182 is bloody £6000+ though. Chip is about £350-400

Different types of car though - you pays ya money and makes ya choice.

Still only a lil 1.8 engine thats in it.... Small engined turbos are good alright but at the higher speeds they still run out of oomph.

You need CC's for good top end acceleration (note I dont mean top speed, I mean good acceleration when starting at a high speed)

Oh believe me i can't take my car round corners anything like what i could with the focus ST170 i tried, its a massive car in comparision. I'd definitely be interested in hearing what else i could do to improve cornering on my car tho, just from a sheer interest side of things...

    OUCH, how MUCH petroL?.....

AND turbo's are the way forward imo, TORQUE is the only way for me now....

I'd like to have a go in a megane 225 RS to see whats its like handling and performance wise.

a set of bilstein sportline dampers and eibach 35mm lowering springs should do the job nicely while still keeping a bit of comfort, i wouldn't put anything else on my car except for maybe H&R springs if i wanted it lower
