As far as I understand it, you can take it to and from an MOT station that has a pre-booked appointment even if it has no tax or mot, but you do need insurance.

Forget towing the car unless it has broken down. Simply insure the 106 and drive it to a garage for an MOT, you can even drive it home - but, the MOT must be pre-booked and you must drive directly to the garage and straight back, i.e. no stopping at the corner shop for a pint of milk. Once that's all done, tax the car ASAP.
That link to yahoo was what I looked at initially, but was a bit old.
hoping that insuring it will be enough.
Will keep searching for advice
Thought the peeps here would know as well.

go carefully chaps.
it is acceptable to drive an insured car to an MOT when the MOT has failed but it must be in a passable state.. ie the work would have been done IN ADVANCE and a fair and reasonable expetation that it will PASS must be made. And that, is a blummin nightmare.
In answer tothe answer is.. you use a trailer.Originally Posted by KeyboardDemon

I have a 106 sat in my garage. it needs to go to two different places before being on the road... and it needed to get TO my garage in the first place. Trucks will be used for all of it.
Also, if you rent a trailer yourself, or borrow a flat bed etc.. it is WELL worth covering the rear number plate of the broken down car.. so any camera's that detect it can't see it. Or you'll spend months proving it wasn't on the road. Speed camera's, Number Plate Recog cameras.. they'll all spot it. Cover it up.

deejay... if you ask the MOT station for help.... they might just collect it for you, on a trailer, for a £20 drink.

The car is is a perfectly driveable condition so i can imagine it would be ok to drive there for an MOT, as you said.
However its only going down the road so even towing it might be ok, covering up the licence plate
Directgov site says.
Of course it goes without saying (I hope) that the vehicle must be in good working order or at least thought to be possible of passing the MOT test.Driving to an MOT test when a SORN is in place
You can drive your vehicle to and from a pre-arranged test at an MOT test station provided you have adequate insurance cover in place for that vehicle.

Remember to inform the garage that it has no tax incase they park it on the public road after its done its test.
While the effort is minimal for the potential troubles later......I think it's probably a little OTT. I live in Plymouth (which seems like the land of road enforcement cameras at times...) and actually drove around for over 6 months without an MOT last year (complete brain-fart on my part!)....been MOTed for almost a year since and nothing has come through my door *fingers crossed*
