    Talking Yay test drive!

Now that the bank have said yes I went to Black and White and took a 1.6 147 for a test drive this morning.

It's gonna be a long month...

Also went into Basingstoke but they "didn't have any 1.6 147's" so I couldnt drive any of theirs. Took some pics tho:

New nose on the 156 (no other changes to the 2003 spec)

    147 GTA

    It purrrrrs

    The GTA has a 3.2 litre V6 with 250bhp, but I'm only interested in the 1.6 litre 4 cylinder 120bhp 147

Well that depends on what you expect. Because of the sublime handling, it goes around corners like you would not believe (remember this is a completely standard base model I drove). I drove it with myself, a guy from the garage and two of my mates in the back so I could see how it pulled with a full weight in it, and it was a quicker than my Clio with just me in it, by quite a margin (and my Clio is pretty quick with just one person in it anyway). What I enjoyed was the torque; cruising along at 70 in 5th, foot down and it just picked up and kept on accelerating to a ton when I let off.

0-60 is claimed at 10.6 for the 1.6. It's not a hot hatch by any stretch of the imagination. But it's quick, and the engine... oh my god the engine - there are angels under that bonnet I swear; I kept my foot in it until 6krpm and chickened out - the sound was just beautiful and there were STILL another 1000rpm left. Because of the engine sound, because of the handling, and because of the driving position, it feels fast no matter how you drive it. No rattles, no squeaks, just me and the engine (and the 8 speaker Bose sound system of course).

Every trip I make in it I am going to enjoy, and arrive with a big grin on my face
    Simon
