    New Car

Was going to get a Ford Focus 1.6l but upon completing my degree at university my girlfriend dumped me so I got a loan and got something with a little more poke.
Now hoping the fuel and tyre costs don't cripple me.

It's a Fiesta ST500 for anyone who didn't know, and it's nice to have something with a little more power than my previous Peugeot 206 Auto 1.4l

What do you guys think about them?

Your looking at 28-32mpg with real world driving. 40mpg with a Sundays best.

You'll learn. But better than a 206 at least.

You'd have more power in a pair of rollerskates than in that

Nice car, not keen on the bonnet styling but could also be a fairly reasonable on depreciation being from a fairly limited run and all

    Re: New Car

My wife went the other way. She test drove a Fiesta ST and went for a Focus. The Fiesta was noisier, but quicker, but the Focus (a 57 1.6 Titanium) just felt like a grown-up car. She changed her mind a bit after she let me go hooning along the roads around Loch Lomond...

    Re: New Car

£1200 per year. Got the quote before I got it.
Interestingly it cost me £300 more to insure than a normal ST.

I have skates and can verify this claim!!

I'm not that keen on it either but I wanted the ST500 and taking it off would de-value the car.

I'm averaging 25mpg since I got it but luckily I don't have to travel far on a daily basis.
There is little of the same size that is faster. Of course you have the Type R and Renaultsport Clio etc etc

Aha. Yeah I was very tempted to get a '58 plate titanium with low mileage, but that would've cost me considerably more in initial cost then what I got the ST500 for.
The ST is noisy, but so much quicker, as I'm still insured on my sisters Focus 1.6 and I have driven that a fair few times.

    Re: New Car

Hey, if i was in your position, I'd probably go for the Fiesta too. Age and marriage steer me towards the more sensible options. Although the Focus does allow for some quite 'insensible' moments...

You need to add nitrous injection to the car - you would be faster than KITT!!

I got it with three Avon ZZ3 and one Pirelli P Zero Nero, but upon wheel change it shall be going back to all Pirelli P Zero Nero at around £100 a corner.

    Re: New Car

There's a nice fiesta ST around my way, ford imperial blue and lowered on some anthracite team dynamics 1.2 pro races coupled with a tasty exhaust, really looks nice and not chavved to death. I'm not a very big ford fan but that was really nice!

However you're saying 25mpg and 150bhp from a 2.0 NA? I'm not so sure about that, in your shoes I would have probably gone for an rs clio 182, they're supposedly phenomenal on the handling front. I put my half sensible head on and got an octavia VRS tfsi, so it's very practical, 240bhp and still returns 32mpg ish, and on a steady run up to 42mpg! I do concur it is a little boring to look at but I like that no one gives it a second thought

I have found out since buying it that a black car does not stay clean for more than a couple of days at a time
Cleaned it more times in the 6 weeks I've owned it then I have any other car in the 2 years I've been driving.

It was serviced at the start of this year by a ford specialist, but will be keeping up with the services as I can't afford to replace anything major on it currently.

I might've had it not been French and a tad too powerful. Had to deal with a 206 before this and let's just say I had a few reliability issues with it.
I could probably eek more mpg out of it but I'm doing rather short trips, to work and back, and quite enthusiastically at that.
