My 106 is to be MOT'd on Monday after i legally drive it to a pre-booked appointment with my insurance that starts tomorrow Other Thread

So.

if it passes and i order the road tax that night, can i drive it the next day to work???

i have googled ( as you do ) and some people mention that this can be done as its in the post, however these are posts from 4 years ago.

anyone got newer experience with this subject.

I think they can check but they may pull you over.

Might be best to check with your insurer what the exact situation is.

No mate, you can't, you will need to wait for it to arrive, the exclusion only applies if it has been ordered and its the first five working days of the month. As yours isn't, you would need to wait for it first.

Straight from directgov :-

If you use the electronic vehicle licensing service or tax by post at the end of the month, there’s now an exemption for not displaying a tax disc. This exemption covers the first five working days of the month to allow time for the new disc to arrive in the post. While you are still waiting for your tax disc you will need to display your current tax disc. The exemption only applies if applications are made before the current tax disc or SORN expires.

Cheers for that. That's what I needed to know and as this is right from the horses mouth, must be the case.

Now looks like I will have to visit the post office on Tuesday, with my MOT cert.

I think it is one of those cases where you will generally get away with it. Anyone (police, traffic wardens) who actually care if you have tax can look it up on the database where, if you have paid, it will say you have tax. A lot of this enforcement seems to be done with cameras these days, and again they work on database lookup.

ofc the law isn't about having tax, it is about "displaying a tax disc". If you meet an arm of the law who is having a bad day and they decide to take it out on you, you are in breach.
