Anyone watch the F1 today? [Spoiler Alert]

    What a race!

After the contact that damaged his front wing, I thought that was it for Vettel. I thought that he was going completely out of the game but dayymmmmm he raced one hell of a race and pulled it back from the back of the pack... twice!.
Shame for Hamilton as his performance was stellar up until his engine gave in, much prefer to see Kimi up at the front though, what a guy. His team radio had me in stitches!

This season is yet to disappoint, been real nail biting stuff and it looks set to be like that till the last lap of the last race!

Re: Anyone watch the F1 today? [Spoiler Alert]

Yeah, it was an awesome race - full of action.

Definitely a shame about Hamilton but Kimi was great, both in his driving and his radio messages. Not sure why anyone thought Vettel could or should have gone to the end on that 2nd set of tyres - was quite clear they were going off and Red Bull needed to bring him in to maintain a decent position.

Bit of a shame for Webber too - though to be honest he should have just gotten out of Vettel's way and maybe then the team would have found him a more favourable time to come in for his first stop and he wouldn't have ended up being taken out (not that he was driving like a saint today...). I'm not generally a fan of team orders but this late in the season with Vettel and Alonso so close Webber should have yielded IMO.

Not a big fan of Alonso but he definitely drove his socks off again today too.

Re: Anyone watch the F1 today? [Spoiler Alert]

Well the Red Bull has proven to manage tires quite well but I definitely think they made the right call. It was between defending against Alonso on bad tires or attacking Button with fresh ones. Button did everything he could but his McLaren just didn't seem to have the pace it usually does and Seb's overtake was very clean.

Very little pitty for Webber today, he drove too aggressively and was lucky to get as far into the race as he did. Strange change of play for him really as he's usually pretty clinical.

I think Alonso has been awesome this season, a real pleasure to watch. Given that the Ferrari has been pretty average with regards to performance (excellent reliability though) yet Alonso still managed to have the upper hand in many occasions really speaks for his talent, today was a great example of that! To be honest I just don't want Vettel to win again, I don't know why I don't like him but I just don't!

I think he definitely did it to himself - seems he didn't want to yield to Vettel which was dumb in the circumstances and which made the team put him back out in traffic which probably made him even more aggressive. I quite like Webber but he definitely struggles with being the #2 driver which is what he definitely is as far as I can see (you don't hear much about Red Bull only making the latest updates available to Vettel, as Ferrari seem to do with Alonso, for example).

I feel the same about Alonso - he definitely seems to be out performing his car but he's the one I just can't get on with. I can respect his talent (more so now than when he won his 2 WDCs with Renault) but I just don't like him. It gets a bit boring with Vettel winning everything but I like him - though he does cry like a little girl!

Oh and as far as Lewis goes - definitely a shame as it could have been his last win for quite some time (maybe Mercedes have something they can pull out of the bag for next year but I'm not confident).

Re: Anyone watch the F1 today? [Spoiler Alert]

    Was carnage!

Vettel was lucky that Button's gone soft in his old age and didn't push him off the track when he went around the outside - Vettel's pushed people off when the situation was reversed.

Several other drivers seemed to have red mist and repeatedly got involved in contact - I was surprised how quick the stewards were to say no-one was to blame though for most of them.

When Vettel wins the championship I hope they show a replay of him driving through the DRS sign..

Yeah like he did to Alonso! Was racing courtesy and i think more drivers should take a leaf out of Jensen's book really. If i driver keeps coming at you with attacks and then makes one that looks like it should stick you need to back off to avoid you both going out of the race. Both racers still got points and no cars got damaged - Sensible move for both parties.

Yet somehow Perez got the blame for that last scuffle. Couldn't get my head around that, it looked like just another racing incident really. No more of less blame to place on that one than there was on any of the others.

I love how he was trying to blame Riccardo for that!

Haha yeah there was a fair bit of bad language there, i wonder how many fools called up to complain about it?

    Q. Kimi - your first victory since the 2009 Belgian Grand Prix. Tell us about your emotions at this time.

    Kimi RAIKKONEN: Not much really.

    Love the guy!

Yeah i remember that one, Fantastic!

The guy just doesnt care about anything other than getting the damn job done. He tells it like it is and ignores all the fanatic, superficial fluffy nonsense. When he retires it will be a very sad day, i hope he keeps going for a good few more years and manages another title in that time.

Some people say he's boring and bland, those people have clearly never been to Finland.

Don't agree with this. Webber was told that if Vettel is in a position to pass him, he should let him through, but Vettel didn't get close enough to make a pass, certainly not before Webber was told to pit. I have never agreed with team orders and never will.

I agree that Webber made some questionable moves, but at the same time, it seemed to me that although he was on the outside and off the racing line, he was ahead of Maldonado and Massa but there was no yielding or in my opinion sportsmanship which caused the coming together, although thankfully they didn't result in the end of anyone's race.

Depends on when the radio messages were given rather than broadcast. I'm presuming they were given a minute or two before they were broadcast which may favour one theory or another - on further thought I'm not sure which so no point arguing it...

I don't like them early on in the season but it's naive to not expect them at this end of the season when there's only really 2 people in it (and in Webber's case, one of them is you team mate...)

Doesn't matter where in the season it is IMO, i think a driver should be allowed to race to the best of his ability regardless of the standings. I would have thought being ordered to let your team mate go past is quite demoralising.

That wouldn't be F1 then. For all the things that are great about F1, you can't lose sight of the fact that it is basically a bunch of commercial organisations and an overlord creaming as much money as they can. Fairness, in any sense, is only applicable where it adds to that objective.
