Ever had a weekend when you wished you hadn't bothered?

This weekend I managed to hole my intercooler in the most stupid of ways.

For a while I'd been meaning to clean my induction kit since with all the naff weather we've had I was pretty sure it was more black than green. To get at the IK, you need to take the intercooler off. So, whilst it was all off I thought I'd have a look at it. I gave it a clean, did the mandatory GTT "hold the intercooler upside down and hope oil doesn't pour out" check and then noticed that a couple of metal pipes had been pushing up against it, and with the heat it had worn away a lot of the metal.

I decided to test how strong it was.. so I tapped it with the end of the screwdriver very, very gentley.

It went straight through, it was about as strong as tin foil.

Doll managed to bodge it for me with some silicone sealer to get me home, and this morning I managed to get it welded up and it seems OK. Had a play with a Cooper S from a set of lights and I didn't lose so it seems to be holding out. Need to run a few more boost tests to check it out properly but fingers crossed..

    Doll to the rescue.........

you'd be stuck without him..... Lowe's Mechanic

Glad it seems to be sorted....

Welding it up... is that a temp measure or should that be fine for the rest of its life?

Indeed, Doll always fixes everything I bodge.

Welding will be a permenent fix, it's probably stronger now then when it came out the factory
