Wow, lots of Boxsters for sale, and pretty cheap as well.

Must admit, I spent a lot of last night looking into XK8's; think it's my new favourite. Prices do seem rather sporadic, with some as low as £4k. Thinking it might be worth getting a cheaper one, so even if the gearbox or engine (pre-2000 sulphur fuel ate the nikasil, but should be good with a post-2000 car) needs replacing, could still be cheaper than some of the £7/8k ones. Not really going to get a low mileage on a 10+ year car really, even if I wouldn't be adding many myself. Give it a few years, they might become collectable and go up in value!

I didn't know you worked on concept cars??

Alfa GT 3.2 V6 is a better bet these days, more reliable, much more powerful, better equipped, you can get parts and it can live outdoors. Last car to feature Busso's glorious engine design (which is why my wife has one and will probably look after it for many years).

Garaging is a problem with most really fun cars, if you don't have a garage to lock it up in at night then at best it will devalue (a garaged exotic or classic can hold its value) and at worst you won't get insurance.

Porche does seem the best bet if you want something a bit exotic, the boxter is quite within price range.
The OP wanted something quirky, unique and interesting - that Therma has that in spades??

The SZ is an interesting Alfa.

Concept car; just the one for now and that's been "postponed indefinately". There's rumours and speculations at work what the next project(s) might be.

And that SZ; looks great, but might struggle to fit in my budget!

The Thema certainly has that, but as a Lancia nut myself I would have to class it as a second car to be usually kept in the garage. I looked at buying one myself as a daily driver, but went for an Alfa in the end.

My 166 actually gets quite a lot of attention, which I find funny for an old shed worth about a grand. Mind you, there are probabaly only a couple of hundred left in the UK now as they never sold many over here.

SZ is nuts, and again if garaged will preserve value otherwise will probably lose money at an alarming rate.

Do NOT get an XJS. Unless you want to go bankrupt. My Dad's mate got one, he thought if he ploughed a decent wedge into it, he could get it running properly. But they are a money pit. Warren Buffet would not be able to afford to run one...

Re: Looking for Something a bit Different/Quirky/Unique

Well, I didn't go for the Jag XK8 in the end; it looked great on the outside, but the interior wasn't quite to my taste really.

Since I might be driving up to Edinburgh for New Years, I did consider that a RWD car might be best suited to the Scottish weather at that time of the year, so thought about getting something AWD. This naturally lead me to the Audi TT which I went and had a look at last week. I actually really liked it; 3.2l V6 with the DSG gearbox, but was a MKI rather than the better looking MKII. Was seriously considering buying it, but mentioned it to my friends whilst watching rugby and got slated! Not only that, I read a bit how as long as your careful and have sensible tyres, winter drining in a RWD isn't that bad.

Which is ironic really that I went back and had a look at a Merc CLK 500 last Sunday; when it decided to randomly snow! I had looked at some the week before, but found them in a rather tatty state, and the only one that wasn't had bit of a dodgy past (traded in 3 years ago; the dealer saying his partner wanted it but was too ill - too ill to even actually officially transfer the ownership to himself ). Anyway, this one was in good condition, low mileage and decent amount of equipment; so picked it up yesterday - again when it decided to bloody snow again!

Pictures are in the Showroom thread . However, whilst taking the pictures today, I had a visitor!

And yes, it did crap on the speaker cover...

I drove it once, im 6.1 and it was far too small for me, even took that bit of the roof off, that reminds me.

When taking the roof off it comes with a bag to put it in the boot but the boot is so small its like tetris, the 3 roof parts must go in a certain order and certain way, took us ages first time .

When he sold it, no joke the guy who bought it picked it up in a transit van, ill see if i can get him to send me the pics haha.
