    Help scrapping a car

Any help with this would be great. My 106 has just failed its MOT and needs a silly amount of work doing on it, so I'm scrapping it, and have just got a Ford Escort TD (W reg). HOWEVER, at the moment, the 106 is sitting at the local dealership, and I need to get it about ten miles down the road where it's going to be scrapped (not in the traditional sense though ). It's not unsafe to drive, but is it okay to drive it to where it's going to be destroyed, given that it is still insured etc, but has no longer got a valid MOT?

I'm still looking on the DVLA and other websites, but haven't managed to turn anything over.

    Thanks in advance.

    Fatboy.

p.s. If anyone could post a link to anywhere for info on this it would be fantastique!

Its okay, just dont get caught!

    its only 10 miles :E

Think of it this way (unless your old mot already ran out - then how did you get it to the mot center?) if you left the MOT a week, you could still drive it legally

Its probably best you ignore me, I havent even filled my provisional licence form in yet

lol, cheers for that. You can drive away from an MOT centre to get any problems seen to .... so why not to where it's going to get scrapped? In any case, gonna call the DVLA etc. in the morning to get it set in stone. And the MOT test was done the day before the MOT expired, so it was fine to drive it there, but now there's no MOT. Ah well!

if your scrapping it then you dont need to tell them how it got there, just tell them it ended up in the knackerers yard

i had a car scrapped few years ages ago, phone up the breakers, said they would come collect it, or if i could drop it off they would pay for it. unfortuantely it had no interior and most of engine missingby time i'd finished stripping it

it is legal to drive to to an MOT station without an MOT, i don't know about driving it back from one, or to somewhere else to get work done (e.g. another garage) i'd check with DVLA, asking about the driving it back 'home' thing...

Legally you are allowed to drive to an MOT station without an MOT, as long as it's Pre-booked.

Now, if you were to pre-book and MOT at somewhere, and the place you need to scrap it is on the way.....

Remember, it's not the lack of MOT thats ultimately the problem, lack of insurance is.

You say it's not being scrapped in a traditional sense? Someone else buying it? If so, let them worry about collecting it fro the dealer. How bad was the failure sheet? 106's normally not that bad - Your sure it's not just over zelous main dealer?

The head gaskets knackered, that's the most expensive bit, and its leaking oil like a good'un. It was going in for its 100'000 mile service at the time so it's not all MOT related as far as I am aware. It is a bit of an over zealous main dealer, but I pretty much wrote the car off back in 1998, (new front suspension, straightened chassis etc.) it's not going to have a particularly good resale price even if I had all the work done (£1400).

It is still insured, and one way or the other I'm gonna sort it this afternoon. As for scrapping it, it's going to the Army School of Ammunition, so at some point in the future, it is going to be blown to bits.

If you're donating it to them, surely they'd have some sort of big-ass truck that could collect it?

Sadly no, most of the vehicles get bought in from a local scrappy, going to give him a call if all other lines of enquiry draw blanks.

    DVLA Bit.
Mate here just got a £40 fine for not notifying the DVLA that he'd scrapped his car. His scrappy had promised to fill in the documentation but hadn't sent it in, hence the fine. It's the owners responsibility to deal with 'your' bit of the v5.

Cheers all, got it sorted now, although it's gonna be a while before the car dissapears in a puff of smoke (it still runs ya see!). Don't know if I'll be able to get pics/video, but I will do my best. (I've seen them do a few in the past, making cars somersault is easy with high explosives!)
