    Seat Ibiza Electric Gone

Hi all, I know this may be a shot in the dark but I am hoping someone on here may have some clues to help solve my problem.

The car: 2003 seat ibiza 1.2
The issues: Got in the car yesterday and all electrics switches in the drivers door stopped working.
There are 2 switches, 1 for the in-car central locking and the other for the driver and passenger electric windows.
Both these switches have stopped working but was fine Saturday evening, I have checked all the fuses and even had the door panel off to check the wiring.
At one point it started working again then within seconds it stopped.

I am clueless as to the fault so if anyone has any ideas please let me know, I just don't want to take it to a garage blind and get told it could be this and that.

    Cheers

best bets to check the wiring between the door and chassis as that is the weak point.

when checking the continuity of the wires, its easier with 2 people, wiggle the wire around. Just because it beeps on the meter doesn't mean that the wire isn't snapped inside and making intermittent contact.

try bridging the switch aswell. the switch could be faulty/have a load of gunk in it/ wire could've come loose. bridging eliminates the switch and if it works, then you know the switch is at fault.

how did you check the fuse? continuity or visually?

I once had a spade fuse that had blown, but it got so hot that the fusey bit inside melted back together again. It worked for a short time, then of course it warmed up and then broke the contacts. but then when continuity testing it, it had cooled back to making contact. took ages finding out it was the fuse.

    Re: Seat Ibiza Electric Gone

Update: Went and got new fuses last week and that didn't work. Got an electrian from work to take a look, messed about abit but the darn thing still won't work.
So during the heat wave I was cooking until the sir con keeped in.

Then yesterday I pressed a button and wow everything working again. Try today still working.

Haven't got a clue why but I am complaining as I was going to take the car in next week.

    Re: Seat Ibiza Electric Gone

it'll be a break in the wriing which goes through the hinge side of the door. see if you can get to the wiring with the door wide open and get the rubber boot out of the way far enough to check it.
