Question All paperwork says my car is grey, but it's completely navy/dark blue - what to do?

A friend just pointed out that when looking up my car, everything about it lists it as Grey, even the V5 (or whatever it is)

Bought it from a garage, checked it all over and it's not re-sprayed, definitely factory dark blue. Any ideas how this could happen? VIN number matches paperwork.

Not sure what to do next?

Could be down to the manufacturers description of the colour, that it's "marine grey" which is a blue colour or some other arty bull**** name for it

Probably a mistake when the car was originally registered. I had a similar thing a few years ago when my car was registered as an import even though it wasn't. It wasn't until I came to renew my insurance (oddly there was no issue the first year) that it came to light.

I had to write to the DVLA and they eventually corrected the mistake.

Eventually as in you had to keep reminding them, it took them a while to update it, or just that it was changed from the original?

Eventually in that it took them a couple of months to do it.

I called them initially when I realised the problem and they told me I needed to write to them. I call a month after I'd written to get an update and was told it can take 8 weeks. Just as I was about to call again I got a letter confirming the change had been done.

As with anything involving the DVLA, send it off recorded delivery and be patient with it!

Write to DVLA. I resprayed a car years ago and wrote to them. Got an amended V5 about a month later.

Should I bother calling them ahead of time? Or just write to them? Not sure what to write and send them? A letter and the original V5?

Just write to them. I doubt the call would help the process in any way.

Call them. When I called they gave me the correct address for this sort of thing and said that sending it to their generic address would slow down the process.

Not really a surprise, if the DVLA wanted something from you, they would want it immediately, yet as soon as you need them to do something you have to wait.

Re: All paperwork says my car is grey, but it's completely navy/dark blue - what to d

if it doesn't get sorted..... stop worrying. body shell colour often goes wrong. the staff at the new car admin section of the manufacturing plant often get it wrong. I'll explain by pm if you need.

chassis number (vin) matching is most important. the rest is kindaeasy to screw up. gearbox and CO2 is biggest issue for most car brands this year. tax disc prices draw out the naturally frugal question about car V5's.

    if you're worried..... pm me.

"Gray" is a odd colour for a car to begin with, first thing to do would be to check all your VIN numbers. corner of the windscreen, drivers side plate and in or around the inner wing. A history check would give peace of mind but that is only done on the reg. Always if you are looking for a respray is to lift a bolt in the engine bay or inside the car to check the colour under that.
