This could have the makings of something good - Mini + Celica ST185 running gear!
I have no interest in cars however I might actually end up following this!
EDIT: Lots of lols at ~ 7.30....here...here....here....here...here....here....

Followed!!! :clapping:
Good watch, will be following :D Thanks.
OMG thats quite a rot-box they started with there :)
I love an engine transplant job, but never understood why people do it with a Mini. My favourite is still the Audi V8 Esprit:

For those who saw the project binky thread (can't find it now) about fitting the engine and running gear from a 4wd Toyota Celica into a Mini body shell, the third part has been published.
A fascinating engineering project, and well produced!

Edit: Found original thread and merged it! :)
Awesome project...probably not a million miles away from me as well!!!
:)
Thanks for this, good content like this is hard to find, thaught I was stuck with the nonsensical but entertaining mods from mightycarmods and aaroncakes mazda rx-5 restoration videos
Really enjoying this - thanks for the link!
Envious, both of the ambition of the project, and the potential end result. Looks awesome.
Episode 4!
http://youtu.be/93JcDqxAOK0
Woooooot :D
Was coming to post this after i found it in my youtube feed! :D Not sure i would of welded the seat mounts in without the bulkhead/pedalbox/steering column in position though?
:)
Episode 5!

Thanks for the link!
These guys are outstanding, really great work resulting in a very professional finish.
One of the Youtube comments said they should have pitched this as a show for the Discovery Channel, i thoroughly agree with that!
Really coming together now! :D
The trouble with that is it'd all be rushed through to completion at the expense of the workmanship, just to make a TV show - Beetle Crisis 2 is a prime example of what can happen when this is done.
You've probably already seen them but this guy - http://www.markevans.co.uk/mark-evan...ngineering.php - makes some half decent shows, usually repeated weekly on one of the many Discovery channels, well worth a watch if you've missed them.
Very true, and if nothing else, putting all the Youtube videos together and making one complete build log video would make for a fun few hours watching when the mini is complete.
I do like all of the x Is Born series that Mark Evans has done. I'm an aviation geek, but the 4x4 one was very good, highly recommended to anyone who hasn't seen it.
Episode 6!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KsuYQoqCZeY
yey new episode to watch when I get home :D
Another cracking episode! I shall be quite sorry when its finished!
^ Agreed. I hope they're already thinking about about what to make next, but i'm not sure you get any more deranged than this!
I thought it would be interesting to take a peek at the first link and then ended up watching the first 4 episodes. These guys are completely bonkers but they have kept me interested and fascinated by a subject that I have absolutely no interest in, the only reason I'm not watching more now is I have to go to bed, but I'll watch more later.
Thanks for the links.
Ok, seen 5 and 6 now, when will 7 be available??
I have been following this as well. I really cannot wait for them to get it finished. Its going to be a BEAST!
It will, but it is the engineering and fabrication processes that have had me gripped. It is essentially a new build - the amount of original body shell left is minimal (roof, A B and rear pillars effectively!).
The delivery by the two guys is brilliant though. :)
Update!

Sort of :(
Nice one. At least I know when to expect it. :D
Episode 7 coming on September 26th!
Here's a teaser.

Doh - beaten to it - dunked by biscuit!
need my fix....... >_<
Brilliant build.
very skilful chaps.
Holy Poop!

Another good one! I shall be sorry when it is complete.
Damn this is amazing! I have no interest in cars and have no idea what they're doing 99% of the time but the parts they create and the finish of every piece is amazing.
Episode 9 coming April 17th - http://www.badobsessionmotorsport.co...project-binky/ :)
ITS THAT TIME AGAIN

What did people think of the last episode?
I couldnt help but feel the solution they came up with the flip front was a bit unnecessarily old skool and physically complicated. Still made excellent watching, of course!
But a window motor with custom built metalwork pressing micro switches? I mean I love the mechanical sound that you get from the solution they come up with, but as a solution to a basic electronic problem this seems crazy to me. Weight and space could have both been saved with some pretty basic circuitry.... or am I missing something?
Maybe he decided to stay with a mechanically based solution as he might not have the electronics know how to find a more elegant solution, whatever the reason is I think he does well and have been finding these videos fascinating, amusing and with the long gaps between episodes also quite frustrating. ;) lol
Sometimes the mechanical solution is better and more reliable long term. You could do window motors electronically, detecting the increase in current when the motor stalls for example. Timing wouldn't work because the motor speed won't be constant from day to day, unless you use a motor with some form of velocity frdback. Mechanical limit switches give repeatable operation.
It could just be that the guys are playing to their strengths. I know some fantastic engineers and fabricators to whom anything more complex than a simple relay or connector block is deemed witchcraft. Other than that, all I'd say is that in my experience mechanical problems quite often are easier to find than electronic ones. They can also be easier to bodge fix with minimal equipment just so you can get home....
That is however experience that comes from much older vehicles. As does my opinion that the less reliant on electronics you are to run the show in your vehicle that generally the simpler things will be to fix when and if something does go wrong.
Watching the last few video's from the outside it feels like a disproportionate amount of time has been spent on central locking, leccy windows and fancy bonnet lift apparatus compared to the drive train but I'm sure that part of the build will come around soon and I understand how much time goes into just dreaming up mechanical solutions to seemingly small problems, let alone the fabrication that has to follow.
Just glad I'm not paying their tea bill!
Ditto that, I wonder what the ratio of welds to brews is so far.... Or dead kettles to dead grinders? ;)
Oh, and when's a Legionnaire going to correct their appalling grammar?
The only problem with this series is they arent quick enough putting the epidodes out :-)
I know I know they have a lot of painstaking time consuming work in each one BUT I dont care I just want to see more :-)
NSFW.... new outtakes video

Their back.......

Looks like they are rapidly approaching the '90% done, 90% to go' phase. This kind of project always takes years longer than planned.. Don't ask me how I know.
I was just coming here to post this. Nice one.
Im thinking about signing up to their patreon once I get paid, these videos are soooo good :)
I just bought a Tee - took ages though, because their site is slammed at the mo.
I liked the aluminium bit lol
It's the attention to detail, and the engineering and fabrication techniques that I find so fascinating.
Although they started with a mini shed, they have effectively built a car from scratch.
The majority of the work so far has been sheet metal fabrication, with a little bit of heavier stuff for suspension and fitting the drive train.
But things like fabricating the central locking system and the electric windows were fascinating.
I'm looking forward to them getting the wiring loom in, the dashboard, and then the drive train.
It will be interesting to see how fast that happens. The've put sop much detail work in to the body fabrication that it should make many of the rest of the parts a relatively simple task to bolt together.
True, but I was surprised at how much work had to be undone, or subsequently changed. However they did do a lot of preparation early on for the big bits!
I love this 'show'. Like a little gem hidden away under all the family vlogs and SJW's that now forms the majority of youtube trash.
If you're looking for another grand project log, I've been following SV Seeker for a while: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCj_...-qdD-lPUtTEcXw
They're back !

Funnily enough, I only watched the previous episode this afternoon - I must have missed it on release!
I started watching this earlier, and I can't stop! Currently on episode 8 :P Finding it very interesting.
And this is why its taking so long...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vKWfW-MIRHc
I do like their brand of humour.
been that long....
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hR1nU9IJsoM
Perfect, I just put the kettle on.
It's been sooooo long!
I was just looking for this thread to post that :)
The evaporator is dead impressive, I was chuffed when I replaced my condensor on my dads drive but that's a whole other level. Wonder if it'll work?
These guys are doing some amazing work. The quality here is spectacular.
I'm glad they aren't compromising for the sake of finishing, but five years later, it's easy to see how this kind of project can creep..
Still enjoy watching it. Good to see all their hard work coming to shape, learnt lots.
2018 update- I finally have time to watch this. What a great show. As Jiff Lemon would say.. "where have you BEEEEEEEEN?"
I knew it was good and watched a few and then life did what it does and got in the way.
Yes, it's good. It's brilliant in places. The skills shown are exceptional, amd in theory simple in many ways once you see them.. but before you see them, you'd have no clue at all!
CAD stil makes me laugh.
Cardboard Aided Design
well I am soooo sorry... I apologise unreservedly. And more.
I think I need to create a new thread - one for new episode announcements ONLY and one for discussion about it! :)
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM

Also the joke right from the begining is from MightyCarMods second channel, they have some great project cars on there.
