    Self Driving Cars

As I drove back yesterday, I thought to myself.... I wonder if the biggest challenge for self driving cars in the UK.... is actually the state of the roads.

There's very few roads around where I live that aren't badly broken up, or potholed or just poorly repaired. Currently I can move around a little to try and reduce this, but do wonder if automated cars will manage the same, and perhaps if not, give themselves a bad name.

    Just a thought.

    Re: Self Driving Cars

I'm sure automated cars will have to have some kind of road scanning function if they're to exist one day, or we'll have a lot more road kill for starters. A bad road surface could be treated as an obstruction or simply adverse road condition and taken at a slower speed.

Difficult terrain, reduce movement to half?

If we got self driving cars in Manchester, adn they operated on that principle, all Manchester traffic would end up moving at about 10mph - I had a trip to Scarborough iun the summer, and even the old unmaintained roads that have been closed the repurposed for cycle routes have better surfaces than my daily commute in Manchester...

First car to hit a pothole learns where it was, tells Google, cars following drive around it.

Person in the leading car gets served an advert for back pain treatment
