Lower revs at higher speed = less fuel used

    or

    Closer ratios = faster acceleration

Probably a combination of both on a normal road going car.

    right,,,,this needs to stop.

    pls

Allen.....we;ve been here before....really we have,

Its illegal to drive at 71 mph anywhere in the Uk. Period. Not even in a car driven by Colin McRae, not EVEN in his rallycar with tarmac rubber on. The full 0-60 in 3 seconds and 60-0 in 2 seconds version.....in the wet....on gravel.

But its ok to do 60 mph on a dual carriageway in a Metro....with 1.6 mm tread across 3/4 of the tyre....£20 remoulds tyres with compound harder than concrete ....somewhere that pedal bikes can pedal, mopeds can moped.....and pedestrians can CROSS OVER, IN THE DARK,,,,,,WITH HEAVY RUCKSACKS AND NO TORCHES....

but it's naughty.....oh so naughty.....to do 130 mph on an empty motorway with 4 carriageways.....fences either side.....one way traffic....in a car that can do 155 mph without breaking a sweat.

    Lets not do politics...please.

It doesnt work. Some laws are right. Killing people with a pitchfork. Molesting children. Stealing peoples TV's.

But doing a speed that is illwgal since cars were first on UK roads.....from when the E type Jag was the fastest car EVER..... is irrelevent.

I dont care WHAT you say......it is COMMON PLACE. Sorry...

    it simply is

Plus saying that 6th gear does 120mph and actually doing it is a different thing.

And don't brag about speeding either!

In my post there I've done neither, want to call me a w'nker fine, try having soemthing to back it up tho otherwise you get nowhere...

If u remove ur head from ur arse for a second and use the search function I'm sure u'll b able to find threads where I'm for the whole 20mph zones outside of schools and stuff like that...

And FYI my 6th gear can be used at 35mph+.
I am also a memeber of a club that has track days.

Next time u jump to conclusions go wipe ur arse instead of posting your sh1t on here...

Deja vu? Nope it's just Allen again on one of his rants, no offence m8 but why do you keep coming in cars & bikes?... when you know what you are going to see, and we know what you are going to say...every time you see a reference to somebody doing over 70mph. Speed doesn't kill people, s**t drivers do!

Well said, while it may be illegal under the right conditions on the right road speeding harms nothing but your own wallet if there's a camera.

Trig never said he'd actually done it and even if he had there's such things as trackdays, dragstrips and deserted airfields to do it on so don't be quite so quick to climb on that preaching pedastal Again

I suppose the fact that information about a cars top speed in certain gears and the fact that it can be caculated relatively easily yourself anyway also slipped your mind?

    Guys, don't feed the troll..

6th gear is often an overdrive gear. Some cars will go faster in 5th but 6th is used for economic cruising.

Ahem... On mine, 6th makes for a very short first (closer ratios at bottom) but then gives a great ratio for cruising in top gear. In 6th I get 70mph at a fraction under 2000 revs rising to 90 at 3000 revs, and so on. So you can see how, at 70, I am still getting a fuel return of over 50mph.

    Everybody should have 6th gear.

*edit* And mines a real gear, not overdrive! Huh, the thought of it!

Anyway 6th Gear - in my car it is purely for the motorway I believe (gives low revs and you use it on the motorway - with good fuel consumpition)
