I don't think that is anywhere near enough to go on, sorry.

If it were me, I would call the RAC who would give me a good guess as to what was wrong. If it is something stupid like a fluid level or a fuse then they will fix it, if it is something serious then they flat bed the car to my friendly mechanic.

As Above, but did anything lead up to it? It's quite rare to have a failure so serious without hearing / feeling something.
The clutch for example would have produced a terrible smell and you'd have slowly lost your acceleration, even with high revs.

    What's the story?

Auto box though, which from a quick google is a CVT unit. Way outside my comfort zone at that point.

    Re: Nissan Micra 1.1

When the clutch went in my Mum's Nissan Sunny it did so very quietly and without fuss, but that was a manual, not an auto.

Bottom line has to be take it to a mechanic, really - no point getting amateur advice on the internet. If you can't diagnose it yourself you probably can't fix it yourself, so why take the risk?

Thats very bizarre. have you had a look under your car? check your CV joints? I would assume its either the clutch or auto-box. whatever it is I hope its not too expensive!
