Ouch for him, his excess and renewal will leave a big hole in his pocket at that age!

Will hopefully teach him to take a bit more care though. When you think about it, as first accidents go, it's probably a good one to have by virtue of the lack of injury.

Glad its all sorted in your favour Knoxy!
Hopefully that's the case. There was no mechanical damage, not at a glance anyway so it should be a simple trip to the scrappy for a new bonnet and headlight, a bit of filler on the wing and a few quid to someone with a spray gun to paint it all up

I really hope so, if he'd rear ended a car, not something with steel beams for a chassis the damage would definitely have been more severe for both parties. As it was, a good portion of the force of the impact went into him going under the rear cross member of the Land Rover as it steadfastly refused to budge.

In a way it's the best case scenario, zero injuries, the incident occured five minutes from his house so getting it back in a battered state wouldn't have been too bad and he hit something that's pretty damn difficult to break. I've taken it to a local specialist not a main dealer, so he's not paying for all new panels, just a bit of panel beating and a lick of paint. I've pushed for something small rather than a similar hire vehicle as well so the cost's going to be about as low as it can be.

From his point of view he hit something that did more damage to his vehicle than the other, has probably seen his cost for renewal skyrocket and perhaps even ended up with a write off on his hands and I can sympathise to an extent. BUT, he should have been paying more attention, shouldn't have been going the speed he was, shouldn't have left the scene and nor should he have been completely unaware of how to handle locking his brakes up if he wants to drive something that's twenty years old.

I'm sure he feels like some beardy git in a Land Rover has taken the "freedom" his wheels provide away from him and gone by the book, costing him the earth in the process but I do hope he comes away from it a little more careful and aware of what's giong on around him on the road. It's certainly made me pay even more attention to my surroundings when I'm out and about even though I wasn't at fault!
