    Next Car Help

Spotted a beauty of a BMW the other day. Its an 1994 white 325i, 2 door. Done 130K on the clock, full service history, body kit, alloys, lexus lights. The body work is in great condition, apart from some blistering on one of the rear arches, the guy was asking £2600 for it. Starts fine, ticks over nicely. Gonna see it again with a mate tomorrow.

Anything in particular I should ask about? Already checked insurance costs. What you guys think?

Dont like beemers myself, but it is a lot of car for the money. Check for rust, smoke on idle etc the usual, and if you like it buy it

    Whats insurance like?

They want £800 more to change the policy (thats fully comp, currently have 3rd P F&T) So would probably be around £1200 a yr. I DO like it, so does my dad, so does my mate ...

    Heres a pic

Looks nice - but (and this is a generalisation) its been made to look very M3'ish, and therefore I would assume – hasn’t had an easy life. Would be interesting to know the service history (or if its been reset using one of those plug ins) and if there have been any problems with the head gasket.
It’s a garage sale – so they are obviously going to make money on the sale, what’s the MOT and tax like, are they giving a decent warranty etc etc.
If possible – get a decent inspection (RAC or AA) performed, but then I have yet to find a garage that I would buy from again
Is the insurance price youve been quoted with all mods declared?

    hmmmmm

modded cars come in two varietys,

    a) its been modded cos somebody loves the car, they dont trash her whenever theres no speed cameras, and it always recieves the best love the owner can give.

    b) a chav had it, stuck a body kit on, and thrashes it around.

tbh, focus your attention to the modding, if its done professionaly, then get the car, if it looks like a bodge job for 40 B&H walk away.

Yeah the insurance costs was with the mods n stuff. The engine looked clean, might have been steam cleaned before hand, but the guy had only just got it in.

I dunno this is one of those things where you want someone to say 'yes' or 'no' to. I don't think its been thrashed around, its in FAR to good a condition to have been thrashed around by a chav. Thing is do I go for a 130k miles on the clock car? I'll probably see about the RAC check, gonna have another peek at it today.

I am VERY tempted though. Nice rear wheel drive for skidding round roundabouts. Don't need a steering wheel!

Well, it is a ten year old car, and 13K miles a year isn't so bad. I do 20K in mine!

Well I got as far as putting £100 deposit to hold it. Rang RAC to get it examined, and because it was more than 7yrs, the whole kaboodle would have to be done. The girl ran an HPI check and it threw up 9 previous owners. That set alarm bells ringing, so I'm back tomorrow to get my deposit back.

9 is just a few too many for my liking, and one has to ask, why? Oh well, disappointed, but hopefully something else will crop up.

I would have done after the full RAC check. But having 9 previous owners, even if i loved the ride, would over rule it.

So I walk away hopefully with my deposit, still seeking for that something special. I think BMW made a few more cars didnt they?
