    1st Generation Rav 4 or 1st Gen CR-V

What would you choose and why ? Im after an 5 door SUV, reliable, around 1999 V'plate, Auto with leather but which manufacturer? On paper theres not alot between them ...and the Landrover Freelander is just not reliable enough, so its one of these two im afraid ... opinions appreciated !

    Rav4 for road use

    CRV for off road.

Tumble will probably shoot me down...neither are really off road , but the CRV is the closer.

Both very reliable, and make sure you have DEEP POCKETS for servicing....dont scrimp. If it needs tyres, you might have to do them all. Oil forlots of diffs and stuff....CV joints everywhere

X-Trail is more expensive, closer to the RAV4 and CRV 2nd generations in spec, and apparently as good as both.

Zak's got this one to a tee. I suspect the CRV might be slightly larger inside. Both would be fine choices.
