Rate these Car Sales Web Sites

There are two or three major car sales hosting companies linked to major brand names in the motor trade.

I have listed two. One is powered by Auto Respond and one by HPI.

Can you have a feel around on these websites....dont actually contact them, cos they are simply traders who use the web power involved.

I am interested in how you see them...the layout...the funcionality. Not necessarily the stock, although it does matter to an extent.

Each of these sites you could have stumbled across via Autotrader or a few other routes....and thats what this excercise is about.

IF you found the cars you wanted on these web sites, would you like to visit? How well laid out is it? Maps? Design? Access?

In short....could you give me a 1 to 10 rating on both.

    Thanks people......

I like the autorespond site better.

not fussed on the HPI site at all.... Having to enter reg plate/post code is a pain... you are looking for a car... why do you need to give them your "current" reg plate. and the only reason they need ya post code is to work out the distance from your home, like autotrader does.
Silly if ya ask me... dont like the site at all.

    So..........

Autorespond gets a nice 8/10 for me... cause its clear and obvious what your looking at... although a search/filter feature would be nice...

HPI gets a sad 5/10... cause i dont like it (explained above)

    Yup, 8/10 for autorespond

3/10 for HPI (I just want to look at the stock, not mess about with postcodes etc dammit!)

Nice looking site, kept it simple an uncluttered with only the few essential choices you really need.

The car listings work - but are too simple and need to be improved, Come on this is ASP.net theyre using the most powerful programing force this side of Gandalf the White, they should have options of sorting the cars up by Manufacturer, Category, Year, Price etc, as well as having a search page where if i type Audi in it comes up with all the Audi's. That aint rocket science, if i am looking for a nissan i dont want to have to plough through three pages of cars only to find there are no nissans in stock, a search engine will find that in an instant.

I like the way you can generate PDF files on the fly, though the PDF files categorise the cars by Manufacturer - why the hell doesnt the website??!!

    SITE L

Bit basic looking, dont like the way the site is laid out in general and theres some horrid usability choices on there - for instance the fact you have to hover over tiny pictures to get any text to come up on the facilities page, why?!!!

The car listings are much better though, totally searchable and sortable, ok you have to enter your postcode before you can search (they could make it optional to silence the moaners), but whats the problem with doing that? It just tells you the distance of all the cars which i am sure has been implemented so the system can be used in the future to sell cars from multiple garages around the UK, you always know how far the particular car is then, if its in scotland or cardiff. Whats the problem? You don't have to enter your current car registration thatis optional so that isnt a problem at all.

    So to sum up.
SITE C - Has the better layout and usability, but a crap stock system
SITE L - Has a great stock system, but crap layout ans usability.

Whoever merges both of those into one good site will be happy and so will their customers
