Neighbour's 1956 VW beetle restoration project - help identifying a part.

My neighbour is in the process of restoring a 1956 VW beetle with a friend. The received the car in parts and are in the process of doing the internals.

He is currently on the wiper motor and is unsure of the voltage. The only marks present are 31 53A stamped on the cable attachment part. I was hoping someone may be able to help or point me in the right direction!

(apologies the picks are smaller than I thought they would be!)

    If it's a previously unrestored '56 it'll be 6v, as they didn't go to 12v until 1966.

He's not sure when the part is from.

It could be from later than 66.

Try running it at 6v first, that shouldn't cause any problems. If it doesn't work then try 12v. If it still doesn't work it's knackered and he'll need a new one anyway
