Weid problem with Proton

Strange problem here

When accelerating getting a slight judder and loss of power from enginelasts a few seconds juddering then clears. Happens when the car is cold and when the car is hot. Now sometimes it does it yet others it wont not sure where to start looking. Was gonna check the plugs this weekend as a starter. We had a similar problem a few years ago when the distributer had to be changed but that was alot worse than this and only when the car was cold and the engine almost stalle that time.

What year? Fuel injection or Carbs?

Plugs would be a good starting point, as would plug leads.

cracked distributor cap is possble....its a vary varied intermittent problem, where sometimes the sparking is perfect and other times you get it sorting out or just not working.

One last thought....does it have a CATALYTIC CONVERTOR? If so, has it ever had the wrong fuel in it? Or is it just old?

When cat's get old they come loose inside, and move around, and block the exhaust, normally as you acclerate....then as the car dies, the car slows, the big lump of honeycomb mesh cat roills forward , unblocks the cat and off you go again

I would also change the fuel filter as an extra precaution.

Aye well it was service not that long ago and has new leads and a new distributer cap taken from my old Proton B4 I traded it in

Its a 97 R and is fuel injected I'll have a butchers at the plugs first. Also it has a cat but there been no weird noise like I had when cat in other car went. Time will tell thanks for the suggestions I'll let you know what it was when I find out

silly thing to say really...but Protons really dont go wrong much. At all.

Its normally something service related...such as described by the boys above.
