    Mighty Car Mods

These guys have been mentioned on a couple of threads, but I thought it was worth starting a new one for discussing what these guys have been getting up to.

To summarize, they are a couple of Aussies (who are not mechanics) who do videos on modifying cars, mainly on a low budget. They also travel about and check out the auto scene in other countries. They seem to have a lot of fun and have an entertaining friendly rivalry.

    Youtube Page

The main project that is worth catching up on is the 'Gramps' project, where they stick a 3.0 Tribeca engine in an ancient Subaru shell, turbocharge it and get <12 second 0-60 quarter mile.

The MX5 vs S2000 battle was pretty fun too!

Currently they are doing MOD MAX, which is building an apocalyptic V8 off road car.

To all those who are not familiar with MCM, beware, you could lose a lot of time to their videos!

Am I right in thinking they put most of the good stuff behind a pay wall?

    Re: Mighty Car Mods

I've watched a lot of the MCM stuff since you reminded me about the Gramps build. They are a bit hit and miss for me at times, mostly because I'm not really into turbo Micra's and the like. The tongue in cheek TRD Lazer and Civic builds were very funny though and the Gramps build was an intresting watch. The Japanese sort of mini-docs were good too, although the soundtrack got a tad repetitive.

If the Mod-Max thing get's too close to the zombie proof 4x4 tone wise I'll start to lose interest but so far it's been good. Motor Trend did a similar LS engine swap into a 240sx that was arguably more in depth but you've got to be really into that build to get anything out of some of the videos they posted. Half an hour plus of Carlos Lago on a webcam clicking through a variety of images and parts lists isn't all that fun unless you're going to replicate the swap yourself.

I used to like /Drive, some of Alex Roys videos in particular were pretty good but it has gone down hill.
