    Clio!

I currently have a 1.4 clio rt '93, actually almost exactly the same as Lowe's WAS. (Totally standard) Awesome little car, never broken down on me once yet!

Just about to order a new clio, 1.4 16v sport. Anyone got one? What you think of them?

    Snap!

I'm currently trying to sell my '93 K 1.4 Clio RT. Great car as you say.

Dunno about new Clios, probably still good to drive. Dont like the design though personally.

They're not bad actually. More of the same in a slightly bigger shell. Handling is a little harsher but nice and firm. Steering is light yet very responsive. They weigh a bit more (mainly for safety, they're superb cars for having a prang in!) so the performance won't be too different to what you're used to. Bit revver though due to the 16v lump. Not much in the way of tuning goodies as yet but there's lots of styling bits and the arches are huge so you can get some 17s on it and slam it to the deck should you be that way inclined.

Well sounds as tho i will be a happy bunny then. Its got 15" alloys as standard so i really can't be fussed with different bigger ones, or tuning for that matter!....

Yeah, the old ones are rock solid. Not really heard of any major problems with them! Insurence ain't bad either. (Kind of a big factor for me!)

I've been out in one all day today, actually a really nice car. I expected it to be mega slow but I was very surprised.

I might take a look at the 172's next.

Don't, cos you'll end up buying one.

    right... a clio thread...

i've been meaning to ask you clio loverz; my wife has one, and it handles like sh*te - so i can't work out why you love 'em so much - is it 'cos hers is a carp 1.2rn? or cos it has no PAS? or a cat? i dunno, my old nova was better in the bends, but another mate who had a 1.9d swore by their nippiness and agility, and he would know - i'm not suggesting you're wrong, but wonder why the misses's is sooooooo baaaaaaaaaaad???????????

The 1.2 isn't exactly a model to be basing nippyness or handling on tbh. It's a proper shopping trolley...

PAS isn't needed really in the Clio, though sometimes I wish I had it. Go drive a valver or a Willy, then come back and say they can't handle.

The Clio was renouned as being probably the best handing hatch of it's era. Even now not much comes close.

so i keep hearing - but the wife's isn't even average... tonnes of understeer, lifeless steering, soggy suspension, underpowered, overgeared, no grip... i just don't get it...

it's much better on the motorway than the old nova though... solidly built etc...

edit: i'm sure the 16v/172/willys are ace, but the wife's needs forced induction or summit... hehe... i'll just do it when she's away - there's a bloke breaking a 5gtt in the next village...

    /gets engine hoist from attic...

    Sounds knackered to me then.

Drop the suspension to a proper height instead of shopping trolley level, chuck the GTT brakes on it, drop the engine in and then see how you like it..
