Budget 2015: Tax Disc changes and MOT to move to 4 year old cars

Looking like we'll have a

ZERO
STANDARD
PREMIUM

tax disc banding by 2017, instead of the huge array of different costs now...

(That middle band will be £140)

and MOT's are going to be pushed out from 3 year old car to 4 year old cars.

The "premium" band is down to whether the car cost over 40K, nothing to do with emissions?

Only electric cars get zero road tax, you so much as break wind and you pay £140.

Those first year tax rates, blimey, think I need to find a good nearly new car.

None of the penalty for diesel cars that we were expecting, but with emissions irrelevant after the first year the lower tax that used to be my only real benefit of owning an oil burner is gone.

I'm already paying £500 per year so how does this work for these new cars, after the 6 years premium tax has been and gone... £140 per year seems to be a great deal.

No, it's only for new cars.
