Wink Ahh the real joy of speed (Bikes)

Just thought I'd add my tuppence worth to this car forum

Had a BMW M3 up my rear coming off the big roundabout outside Swanley, it was annoying as he was literally 2 ft from my Bikes rear end, I gave him a look as I came off to go on the motorway but as Im a recent passer of the DAS test I thought "Hmm calm down cant go to fast etc......." then I thought as we speeded up down the slip road to join "sod it lets lose him and make him feel small", I kicked the gear down into 2nd and opened the throttle completely (its a CBR600) .........................

my god I went from 55mph to 112mph by the time I came off the slip road onto the motorway, I'd say less than 1.5/2 secs tops, frankly if that,

*ahem* M3 was nowhere to be seen

first time I went that fast tbh

Wait til you have the experience and confidence (not to mention pocket) to handle the hypersports category. No one will touch you. CBR600 will see off all but the top end cars anyway in straight acceleration. I had a similar experience with some t*sser in a Mitsubishi Evo whilst enjoying a pootle on my RSV Mille. Then again almost any biker can recall a similar moment. Evengot hassled (not for very long mind you) by a pillock in a Ford Ka when I was riding a GSXR750 Can you believe that?

Love M3's, hate the owners (mostly) but not as much as the BMW X5, is it me or are we looking at the worst of 2 worlds there? The very worst in BMW drivers allied with the very worst in 4x4 drivers? I have been carved up and hounded by more X5's than any other vehicle that I can think of. This coming from a BMW driver too.

ahhh.... serious ownage... got to be the best feeling... what model do you ride? i've got a '99 FX... and have to say that its still scares me at times!!!

best ownage was a 911... perfectly straight road... and i'd been out for a couple of hours so both the bike and I were very 'warmed' up... pulled up at a red.. just sat there minding my own business... tapping on the tank to a song in my head... a kn*b in an old '86 Porka Carerra pulls up next to me and gives me the look.. he said something to a fairly decent looking woman in the passenger seat (better than the balding fat 50 year old deserved!) and then starts reving the engine.. so I smile to myself.. and slowley snick it into first... lights go orange... and he tries to get away from me... I wait for the green light (i'm not an amber gambler)... a fist full of throttle, slip the clutch, catch him within 3 car lengths of the lights, hit 11,500rpm, snick into 2nd gear lift the front wheel with a fist full of throttle, and he's a little dot in my rear view.... pull up at the next set of lights, and he pulls in behind me... oh well.. I turned round and smiled at his passenger... he looked non to chuffed... but good fun though!!!

I've lost count how many times I've burned off from cars, but one time that sticks in my mind was coming back from a show, three of us were playing with a TVR, when another bike joined in the fun. Dodge on his GSXR, he hoisted his front wheel, and facked off leaving the car standing. The driver just gave up and slowed right down, pulling into the middle lane

Mmm coming off the sliproad onto the motorway at 112mph?

And they wonder why so many bikers get mushed.

    Wink

LOL bikers get mushed by Cars not by Speed even Richard Brunstrom has admitted it, no offence to car drivers as I drive a car and alot of bikers just don't realise how bad visibility in a car is, its terrible no wonder they dont see us, I have missed bikers in my mirror before now but "loud" pipes help alot especially with low speed filtering.

I ride a CBR600FT (1996) a golden oldie now but still cool Id post a piccie but I havnt got any upload space

still on the dyno a month ago it did 156MPH , 102BPH and Ive got 0-60 in 3.0 (oops typo again) secs posted

and yes it scares the *(&() out of me too!!!

Yes but the faster a bike goes in relation to how fast the car is going, the harder it is too see you, or judge your speed. Hitting the motorway maybe 40-60mph faster than the people in in inside lane means the chance of them seing you is probably close to nil.

S'all i am saying, and yes your right, bikers dont seem to think of how other people can see them, they just think about how they can see other people, which as you say is why so many get mushed.

Loved burning off nobbers in sports cars on my 'Prilla. The Vee twin bellow through the, 'ahem' possibly less than legal, Akropovic full race can just added a little je ne sais quoi to the procedings.

But only if said sports car driver decided to use me like kaillum to impress the trophy bird. The bloke obviously didn't know sh*t anyway as porkers are twice as long 0-60 than just about any decent sports bike anyway. You're in Ferrari F40, or equivalent, territory before a car can out accelerate a sports bike from a standing start.

I also used to look like an explosion in a paint factory in my efforts to be seen by the generally myopic motoring public. But that didn't work either. I had near misses at all speeds and conditions. Young and old. So I just assumed that if it was on the road it was piloted by a moron and acted accordingly. Sorry if I rode past any of you thinking you were a moron. It was merely survival.

Actually butuz, hitting the motorway from the slip road at any speed in anything you are normally invisible as most of the other drivers are probably having a sandwich/shave/doing makeup/on the phone or just got their heads so far up their ar*es they can't see anything anyway.

I always give bikes a pretty wide berth - I know they are considerably quicker then me. I do think some bikers take a couple too many risks in their passing manouvers , which is the reason for the aformentioned wide berth. I'd rather not have to remove bits of bike & posisbly rider from my intercooler - its a pain in the bum

Well RVF has quite a bit more experience than me so I think its probably best to be 'defensive' when I ride, as Moby says I cant believe Cars are aiming for bikers (apart from M3 drivers we're just hard to spot - killer pillars was an interesting campaign where its starting to be raised in government and road safety lobbies that the pillars on cars are too wide and block the drivers view too much. Volvo as usual have come up with a thinner dual pillar which clears the obstructed view of drivers

    .............

or perhaps these problems are just too much traffic, heck go to France *rush hour* has a totally different meaning
