Slight rust at bottom or car

Slight rust at very bottom - left side. Other than get the car professionally painted which would be too expensive - and frankly not worth it, is there anything I can do to insure it doesn't get any
worse?

It isn't really bad at all. It hasn't bubbles or anything. It just seems to be a few parts of the car at very bottom - have lost a bit of paint - probably due to rubbish on the road etc chipping it.

And while it isn't bad, I don't want to do nothing and let it get any worse.

You say professional painting is too expensive, but have you tried the chips away type franchises? I guess what you need doing is sanding, rust treatment, primer and patch spray, which you could do yourself but in terms of your time and effort it might be a saving to get someone in.

What often works best is that if it's minor bubbling you leave it WELL alone until the MOT dude asks for some welding.

holes are bad.. bubbling paint is minor.

I'll try and get a pic later. It just looks like a few spots near the wheels paint has comes off. Maybe 7 spots about the size of a 5p coin or so.

Eh? My 11 year old car has been scraped twice in car parks, one of the rear wheel arches has been showing bare metal for about a year. I really aught to do something about that before someone else fails to judge the width of my car and scrapes some galvanizing off, because then it might actually start to rust. There really isn't any excuse for a modern car to rust.

So yeah, give us a picture. Paintwork is actually quite easy, though not that cheap if you don't have all the stuff you need already and you want to do a really good job. First expense may be to get a Haynes manual on bodywork repair. At the very least though, a dab from a paint pen can keep the water away and slow down the rot. Unless the damage is on the inside of course.

Go to an MOT station and see. 10 year old cars (06 plates) failing MOT's with rusty sills and sub frames etc.

Rusty arches too.

The reason only Merc offers longer perforation warranty than 10 years is because... cars rust. And after 10 years, perforation (from the inside, outward) and rust (stone chips inward) gets hard to determine cause of fault.

But with stones firing up into wheel arches like bullets every day, mixed up with grit and salt...stuff. With branches snapping on country lanes and whacking the underside of your car, with metal on every road bouncing around... cars rust.
