    Re: Audi A3 s line 2007

Seems an odd opening post on a computing forum... And I don't entirely understand what you've written, auto-correct on a phone going crazy?

I'm guessing that you're saying that you're not picking up speed despite your revs increasing. Which is classic symptom of a slipping clutch. Find an empty straight road, put it into 3rd or 4th depending on your cruising speed etc and then floor it. If the revs rise but your speed doesn't then your clutch is slipping and needs to be replaced.

Clutches themselves aren't especially expensive, but they often go due to flywheels being knackered.

This was my first thought too, assuming it's a manual. Try the stall test: From a standstill (away from anything stationary!) stick it in 4th, rev as if you were moving off in 1st and slowly bring the clutch up - if you don't stall get it booked in for a new clutch. Have you noticed it disengaging at the slightest press of the clutch pedal? Notice any worrying burning smells after longer motorway journeys?

    Re: Audi A3 s line 2007

Have you had any lights light up on the dash?

Do you have access to a basic diagnostic machine? Or Pedal Test?

    Tools
No specialist tools are needed, only 2 working feet are required, 30 seconds of your time and pen & paper to write down the codes

    STEP 1:
Get inside your vehicle a firmly place yourself in your seat. Once in, press both the accelerate and brake pedal together

    STEP 2:
With both pedals pressed, put your key in the ignition and turn it to position 2, which is the position that switches all auxilary heating on but not the engine

STEP 3:Once done, the spanner light will start flashing

if it flashes 10 times it means the number is '0' and any other flashes corresponds to a number with a pause between each number

    for example code P0110
the light will flash ten times then pause (2sec Or 1 not sure) flash once, (2sec pause) flash once, (2 sec pause) then flash ten times

if you have more than one code it will stop for a break between each code

however if you don’t have any code stored it will start Flashing and keeps on flashing until you release the pedals

If you follow the above steps you are certain to find codes without ever having to plug an OBD equipment

    Code list is here

Not bought a < £10 bluetooth OBD-II reader from Amazon yet? Only gives generic codes but it's pointed to a failing crank sensor on my Roadster before I got stuck somewhere far away again...

Are these generic codes, or just for Audis?

    Re: Audi A3 s line 2007

I believe this is generic to Audi. I recently had an issue to my Astra where Limp Home mode appeared on the Pedal Test, code was P1120 or P1122 not 100% sure.

I ain't a mechanic but usually the Pedal Test is usually my first route, to determine a baseline of a fault.

The issue I was having, Eng Mgt Light appeared and when accel the car would immediately loss power. But as I worked my way up the gears it was fine so it was as if the car was being choked at certain speed/rpm's. Left it overnight, foot on accel slightly. Turned it over and light remained off and it was fine, drove home (25 miles) light appeared on the motorway home but didn't feel the limp mode until I came off the motorway.

Weird thing is, this was 2 weeks ago. I have done nothing to remedy it and car runs and sounds fine...

    Re: Audi A3 s line 2007

There are some generic codes, and some manufacturer specific. And then there's the ODBII readers. Most of the fleabay ones aren't compatible with CAN-bus, and only reads generic codes, so you might miss an awful lot of faults.

I have a v2.1 bluetooth adapter, which means it can read CAN-bus. Naturally, as it's off ebay, it doesn't and wasn't worth the few quid.
