    Question "Morning Wing commander....."

"having trouble taking off Sir?" said the policeman
*bugger* I thought as he slapped a fine on me
I was going 72mph (on CBR600) on an A road but it was a dual road but apparently its a single carriageway in actual legal terms grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Does anybody know the law on this, its a 2 lane road I was on, it has big white chevrons seperating the road on the other side and I thought it was a dual carriageway (*ahem* well ok I assumed it was and went for the optimist approach)

when is a 2 lane road an A road and when is a 2 lane road a dual carriageway?

    any ideas?
    cheers
    Rom

You probably need a solid barrier between the two directions of traffic.

Yup, if there's a solid barrier seperating the lanes then it's 70mph, otherwise it's still 60 for an NSL afaik or 50 otherwise.

60 for national speed limit on single carridgeway - it will only be 50 if there are 50mph signs.

Sounds like it was a 60 zone, but the policeman must have been a right tw*t not to let you off with a verbal warning, assuming you weren't riding dangerously and were polite when he stopped you.

Worse still, there's a 30mph dual carridgeway in Farnborough that goes over a hill. Guess where the f***ers like to park their police vans pointing their camera

I know that one lived there for a few years. Anyway Romanov isn't known as the naked biker for nothing. Did the copper really say that? What happens points wise?

He was probably low on his quota or mummy wouldn't let him have a moped at 6th form college and has had a latent hatred of bikers ever since.

LOL no not on me back wheel but I was hesitant in pulling over as I couldnt believe he was gesturing for me to pull over, so he got the hump with that but it seemed OTT to me. Put it this way Ive never been stopped donr for speeding etc in a car in 16 years so it does seem to me it was the bike.

    - Ill go with the moped reason

Flibb - Yep but not in a jokey way unfortunatley some police are ok others are just on a power trip I feel - never had that with the old traffic lot they were cool.

Unfortunatley no speed signs so I've always thought it was 70 even in a car and most go faster

*still* helps my hardened biker image

unlucky Romanov... I got done for 40 in a 30 a couple of weekends ago...

the wife and I were out for a nice Sunday morning ride on our way to Devils Bridge in Kirkby Lonsdale, tootling through Hornby and this thing in a yellow baby grow jumps out from behind a fence, I anchor on and he waves me into the side of the road. wife pulls up in front of my bike, he starts his drivel about how I was in excess of the posted speed limit and therefore a danger on the road.. blah blah drivel drivel...

and then says "I could do your mate on the bike in front of yours as well if I wanted... coz he was riding the same speed as you when we clock you!"

my reply "Excuse me Officer. Thats my WIFE your talking about!"

he went all sheepish siad "sorry sir" and finished writing my ticket in silence and told me to go on my way..

dosnt bother me that I got done.. its the way they did it that p's me off.. there were 2 bikes parked as close to the fence as possible so that they couldnt be seen down the road. The gun was put up against a fence and the copper using it was hiding behind the fence... AND they were only targeting bikes... there were 4 cars went past when i was getting my ticket and his partner never pointed the gun at any of them... 2 bikes went past and they jumped on them...

    /rant over...

Devils Bridge is well known for cops targeting bikers. They have a policy because so many go there. And they wonder why relations with the public are poor.
