A BMC CDA - Carbon Dynamic Airbox.

It's a induction kit sealed in a carbon tube. No heatsoak from the hot engine bay, and the intake is directed by that tubing straight to the front of the car. Really brings down your charge temps, seeing a nice increase in power. F1 cars use them.

Ah i see - so it does actually actually have an air filter too? Dont want to see what happens if a small stone, or a wasp get into the turbo blades at 100,000rpm

Looks good, how much was it? Oh and i suppose its not a really worthwhile mod if your not running a FMIC is it as the air will just heat back up thu the turbo?

It's just as important if you're running a FMIC. The air coming out of the turbo isn't heated up to a "specific temperature" as such. The colder the air going in, the colder the air comes out. It's also benificial since it'll be able to get air more freely from the front of the car. It's not as important to get cool on a turbo car agreed, but every little helps, especially when my intercooler isn't in the best of places.

So, that above, coupled with a decent FMIC would lower the air temps considerably? That can only help

    How much was it lowe?

RRP is close to £160. Bigger ones (1.6l and above) cost a little more.

I wouldn't bother - they're next to useless unless they sample at more than a few times a second since charge temps fluctuate a lot. The cheap ones (from Maplin etc) are shocking.

They're ok to compare "before and after", but the results they produce aren't accurate.

    Lowe,

I'm surprised you got the one for 1.6 or smaller.......

Surely a 1.4 turbo sucks in more air than a 1.6+ size engine?!?

Yeah, but think about the size of the CDA itself. Believe me, as you'll see (about to post up another thread) you need the smaller one. It's actual kit for the R5 GTT.
