Fiesta 1.25 LX Zetec V Reg

    Hi,

Got a Fiesta 1.25 LX Zetec (5 door) V Reg.

It's quite nippy - but it seems as though there's a slight delay before the acceleration actually kicks in.

What things could I do to the car to make it more nippy?

Especially things that are cheap or free

Keep it at higher revs so there is no delay in the acceleration, what sort of RRM are you at before you start to feel any pull?

well it normally takes till it's near 3000rpm till it's starts to go some, but mainly when going again after being stopped it seems as though it can't really be bothered moving very quickly...

I don't thinks there is a lot you can do about it really m8. My GF's Corsa is the same, you need to get to about 3500 RPM before anything starts to happen, but at the end of the day these cars were not built to be raced around and they are geared for fuel economy rather than acceleration.

I suppose you could always drop a supercharger in it

    2 things.....both sadly standard.

A: Its a multi valve engine RENOUNED for revving high and fast.....its got NO REAL LOW DOWN TORQUE

B: Lots of modern cars have a lower fuel supply and ignition timing to match at lower revs to assist with emmissions....

So unfortunately......its a hard one to be positive on.

HOWEVER....if it aint been serviced for over 9 months it might need a service......Spark Plugs areoften not changed for 3 - 4 years between servicing....and sometimes frankly they need doing earlier.

You can take the AIR FILTER out of the air box....(prob a big black plastic box) and use a VACUUM cleaner on it to improve air flow.....just cleam it up a bit.

AND FOR ONE TANK ONLY....TRY SHELL OPTIMAX FUEL......never know

hmm, changing the spark plugs sounds like it could be fun, how do i tell whether they need changing? and should i just buy some from halfords or something?

i've tried shell optimax a few times, it seems okay, i can't really notice too much difference. - why shell optimax for ONE tank only?

i've also been putting redex in recently, haven't really noticed too much difference either.

i'll try find out when it was last serviced. cheers

I thought it was suppose to take a few tanks worth before you started to notice a difference with Optimax?

I would buy it more often but there is not a Shell garage near me

Just found this thread. This car's long gone now, but I don't think we ever got this car serviced over the 2 to 3 years we owned it!

With the last car I had (Fabia) I was keen to get it serviced every 12months, and got the spark plugs changed, and changed the air filter and was keen to get it fixed anytime anything seemed a little odd...

and now I'm thinking about taking my current car in every 5000miles for oil and filters!

    My how things change

It is a Zetec engine, they produce all their power at around 4000/4500. I have a 1.8 Focus and it is the same, put your foot down and wait till 4300 and it really does go, all the way till 7000

Just a Zetec trait that is all. Remember you could have a 1.3 Duratec and then you would know what slow is!
