Annoyingly mine's on the recall list. Needs the engine out to replace the springs, 12 hours worth of labour. This is going to be really expensive for Toyota/Subaru!

that'll be the stalling that occurs when a piston slams into an open valve?for a problem with the valve spring that could cause the engine to stall.
or the stalling that occurs when the red hot exaust gas is squished back into the inlet manifold and intake system?
or the stalling that occurs when the engine has no compression and the exhaust and cat are flushed with unburned fuel?
THat's gonna be a tense time.
unless.... \\cynical hat pulled firmly down over my ears - unless they've lost loads of service business on those cars as they got older and out of warranty, and now need an excuse to do 400,000 VCR's over several years (vehicle condition reports) to drivers who don't normally come back into the dealer network.....and while the drivers are in... the new Supra might be a good thing to dicuss too

Oil starvation under hard cornering (albeit more track focused than road but still), and the tendency for rods to want to exit the block at random moments which Toyota almost always put down to oil issues. I wondering if a few of those were actually a valve jammed which the piston slapped and then the rod bent a bit which eventually failed... Either way it's not great. Mine's due in to be done in January, which incidentally is when the Supra is released...

Ah, I can see why that would be... sub-optimal? I'm not sure why I associated the term with pushrods...
WRT Lowe's comment, I've seen valve float cause a valve to basically pierce a piston and cause all sorts of interesting damage inside the cylinder. I would have thought that sort of damage would be more likely with what sounds effectively like valve float, and there would be reported cases of that, and/or bent valves given their size vs the con rods? Or to put it another way, I'd be surprised if a broken con rod was the only/main noticeable outcome of the collision.
these Toyota/Subarus are flat fours and the oil on a track day gets washed around in a biiiig way.. sloshes left to right big time. The factory oil specified is very thin, and on a very hot day, with sticky tarmac, warm tyres and hot thin oil...they tend to lose lubricity in a monumental way.
That's why Lower has a baffled sump
