    Toyota - Celica 1.8 N reg

Anyone driven one of these, what are they like?

I am not entirely sure, but I think the one I have access to is an ST, what ever the hell that means, standard?

Oo yay, found a good piccy, its almost identical to this...

Nearly bought one instead of the 200BHP clio 16v I bought a few years back.

Very nice cars, still my fave Celica, don't like the new one at all. The only reason I never got one was because at the time the body style had only just come out and the cheapest SH models were going around £11000, which was to much for me at the time.

I was only looking at the GT models though, not sure what the ST is.

Living and dying laughing and crying
Once you have seen it you will never be the same
Life in the fast lane is just how it seems
Hard and it is heavy dirty and mean

Lets just say, when i fill in an online quote for the GT models, I get a 'please call'

When I do a quote for the ST model I actually get a result (£1400 though :/)

The GT is a good car with 169bhp, comfy to ride in, good to look at and goes well.

The ST is underpowered (130bhp ish in a fairly heavy body), looks awfull on it's standard steel wheels with trims (those wheel arches are to big for 14"s) but is far easier to insure. You can always change the wheels.

Reliability wise they're pretty good. An import would be cheaper and you might find a GT with Super Sports Suspension if you look hard enough. Basically it's the suspension set-up they gave to the GT-4 in Japan.

Price wise reasonable ones in the series you're looking at start at £4000 but £6000+ will net you something with fewer long term worries.
Raz how old are you? If you're under 25 you'll have to do a fair bit of hunting for insurance on a GT. £1400 shouldn't be the best for an ST but it depends on your circumstances

    Cheers vim

It's done 70 something thousand miles (well below average), 2 owners, ~£3500 (yay or nay?) I havent had a proper look yet and am speaking on information a mate has passed on to me, it has 5 spoke alloys

Im 21, and did run an online quote for the GT (just because it didnt have the ST), £2200 X/ I have no interest in getting a GT just yet. For the ST model, I could get ~£1400 from CIS which isnt TOO bad

    Again, thanks for the reply!

Just done some facts checking (Parkers Big Guide):

    ST - 114bhp 124mph 10secs(0-60) 37.6mpg(manufacturers quote)
    GT - 173bhp 139mph 7.9secs(0-60) 31.7mpg(manufacturers quote)

ST came with 14" 5spokes as standard. First in UK 1995(M-plate). Usual electrical gizmos, ST has electric sunroof instead of air-con (probably optional). Servicing every 9000miles. Late '95 cars onward had airbags.
Have a very good look at the service history. Toyotas are a little more expensive to repair than a Probe/Cougar.

Will be good to hear your report if you go and have a look at the car. £3500 gives the impression it's a little older so condition becomes alot more important so have a damn good look
