I can't wait for fully autonomous cars. Then I can ride my bike like an absolute cock and know nothing unexpected will happen from surrounding vehicles. EVs would make it even better - no deisel on the road! Now, what do we do about the horse droppings? (Apparently, there's an ironic statment with a concealed truth in there somewhere. When you spot it, do let me know).

I honestly don't think fully autonomous cars will be a reality for some time. They're right to work on it but I suspect that progress will be very slow and not always from a technical obstacle. Every single fatality from a robotic driver will be all over the press. Every little incident. I suspect this will make public perception of them somewhat skewed and it'll take millions of miles of data and demonstrating beyond doubt that even a ZX 81 can drive better than most humans.

What we'll get is kids flinging themselves in front of cars knowing they'll do an emergency stop and so on.
