    Car Sales Men!!!! ARGHHHH!

right... I've now whittled my list down from a top 5 cars to the 2 leaders...

    Pug 206HDi DTurbo
    Focus TDCi Sport

we've already test driven the 206 DTurbo, and the G/F likes it a lot.. a real lot... but I'm not to keen on the looks, and want to have a look at the Focus before blowing my wad on a new car!

man.. the Ford Garage have got an amazing way of dealing with customers!!
Walked onto the forcourt and got pounced on by a Salesman..
"what type of car are you looking for?"
"up to 12months old, 3 door, Focus TDCi.. what sort of price?"
he scuttles off and leaves us for a couple of minutes..
"ok.. i've got an 18 month old 5 door Focus TDCi and a 2 year old 4 door saloon TDCI... would you like to see either of those?"
    "hmmm.. so no 3 doors?
    "no. just those 2."
    "no.. i'm looking for a 3 door.. "
so walking out of the dealers, the G/F notices a 3 door Black, New TDCi Sport by the showroom. so we walk in to get a brochure and price list and again get pounced on by another Salesman.
    so the G/F asks
"how much for the black focus with the pretty wheels and interior?" (bless her.. this is one of the reasons I love her!!)
salesman turns to me "now cant you just tell that thats a woman describing a car!"
so my reply "well mate, its her bloody money, so you'd better be nice!!!"
sales dork is now glowing red with embarassment..
"ok.. if you'd like to take a seat, and i'll get some details on the car... would you like a coffee?"
"no.. just a price for the car!!"
sales dork then proceeds off to an office at the back of the showroom.. so me and the G/F sit there... and wait.. an wait.. and wait.. keep looking at him, and he's jumping from the phone, to the computer to a book back to the computer and then back to the phone... so we wait a bit more.. by now i'm getting bored.. very bored!! so I stand up and start to walk around the showroom while the G/F is still sitting there.

at the 10 minute marker, he's still in the office and is still ignoring us!! so we up and walk out.. get in the car, and start to drive off.. glance in the window of the showroom and he's standing by the door with a glazed look on his as if to say "where have my customers gone!"

got back home.. and phone another Ford garage.. asked
"how much for a Focus TDCi on the road?"
"oh.. the new model? yeah its £15100.. but depends on your trade in or finance arrangements!"
"have you got one I can test drive?"
"yep.. just call in and we'll sort it out for you!".

so we went down yesterday, took it for a test drive and now its a tough desicion between the 206 and the Focus..

I know one of our dedicated mods is a car salesman...and absolutely no offence is meant to him.. i'm sure he wouldn't treat a customer this way!!!

there is no point to this thread.. just a rant

    Ford = Numpties

It was exactly that kind of behaviour by a Ford stealership that made me choose a Golf over a Focus (which I originally wanted)

Ford dealerships might not be a hub of intelligence, but the Focus is a MUCH nicer car, both looks wise and to drive imho....

There are just too many 206s around that look pap..

It's true the Focus is more bloke and 206 more bird.

What did she prefer to drive? You didn't say if the test drive in the Focus changed her mind.

The Focus will be the better car to drive but the interior is a little darker and feels more enclosed. Ladies tend to like a brighter, easier to see out of environment (not all I hasten to add).
I've ridden in a 206 and enjoyed it but a little smaller than Focus inside. I've driven a Focus TDCi (115bhp) and love the precise controls and especially the steering. Hate the turbo-lag. If you love to stomp the loud pedal it'll get frustrating. If you drive at 8 tenths or less it'll be no problem what-so-ever

not really.. she's always been a 206 girl.. she originally wanted the Coupe Cab, but with her mileage it seems better to go with a diesel...

before driving the Focus, I thought it would be the car for us... after driving my mind is changed soooo much.. it just seems heavier than the 206, IMO the handling is better in the 206 and the engine seems more responsive in around town situations.. better pickup and easier to chuck about...

the other thing I found with the Focus is that from the inside it seems like a massive car.. dosnt give you any real markers for the width and length!! (and thats coming from a Rover 820 driver!)

gonna go and have another look a the 206 this weekend and make our minds up...

at the end of the day its a car for the G/F to drive daily.. my mileage has been cut down considerably so i'm having her 106 Quiksilver... so in the end the decision will be hers.. and I think the 206 will win...

    My choice......sadly the Pug206....

cos it will always sell, and everyone KNOWS its a good engine...

the Focus us more likely to become a "Rental Special" and therefore in 4 years I THINK you will get more dough back for your Spend with the Pug.

    Besides......anything for a quiet life

(PS: Salemen are, on the whole, fools. Its not because of the job, its because of the entire "getting a job selling motors" thing. Mammothly un-professional on the whole)

Which makes it a bit easier for me when I meet someone like you who has enough with fools and idiots, and discovers someone with half a brain.

But beware, the best salemen are really easy to get on with, immensely affable, funny and normally quite wealthy

i would get the ford. the i bought my mum a pug206. she was very happy with it intailly then it started going wrong and she got exposed to the dealer network. several engine managment systems later and its all fixed. then the key snaps in the ignition. and they say its not a warranty claim. £150 for new locks. ive had several mondeos in the past. st24's and ghia x 2.5 without a single problem.
i also had a pug 306gti6 the garage had it nearly as much as me. the final problem was a snapped cam belt. and a £2.5k engine rebuild bill and being without the car for a month while they got all the bits.

ive also had the same problem with ford salesman. wondered around the showroom trying to get one to sell me a tdci mondeo. couldn't get one to bother.

    got a lexus is200 now

    Re: Car Sales Men!!!! ARGHHHH!

    lol.. holy thread revival batman!!!

we ended up with the Pug 206 DTurbo.. which made way for a Honda CBR600, which made way for an Aprilia RSV Factory, which made way for a Yamaha FZ6 and a Landrover Freelander, which has made way for a BMW 320D Touring...

oh, and the G/F that was, is now the Wife of 4 years, and is expecting my first Son in 5 weeks, and she's got herself a little 206 GTi 180

oh.. and i've still got the same signature as I had back then!
