It's more than based on an Astra, it *is* an Astra. When Deawoo launched in the UK in 1995 their model lineup consisted of nothing more than a bunch of rebadged, rehashed tired old Vauxhalls - they'd bought the tooling.
So the reason it looks like a Mk2 Astra is becuase it is one
