Does good music make you drive faster?

Had a bad day Friday. Finally sold my beloved Mitsubishi GTO (3000GT) as I couldn't afford to put it back on th road. Then forked out for new treads on the wee Micra. So in a vein attempt to cheer myself up, I took the mic on the 'scenic' route home round the country roads to break in the new tyres. Had pre-loaded the mp3 with my fave tunes & proceeded to thrash the nuts off the poor thing. Now I got to wondering, does good music make you drive faster? or is it just me....

Music doesn't really influence me to drive faster, although lots of other factors play their part. I did used to have a tape of Wild Side by Motley Crue in the car and the intro to that used to make me burn out of the car park at a rate of knots, although I usually calmed down after that.

OTOH, as a poor student I used to try and drive my termly move between London and Southampton at as low a speed as was reasonable (usually 55-60mph). I had a big old 1.8 Nissan Praerie which was a bit heavy on fuel otherwise. I found that Screamadelica was an excellent album to settle into a cruising groove to, it stopped me getting bored and flooring it.

Yeah it does have a bad effect on my driving, driving to work this morning with trivium's first album blaring out had a noticeable effect on my speed :S

I find trance (my native genre) particularly distracting when im driving. When its the good trance and not that POP Trance Trash that most people have heard i will lose my concentration more often than not when im driving, but i wouldn’t say it makes me drive faster. Other music doesnt do much to me tho.
